Most climate policy scholarship examines carbon dioxide and overlooks the roles of methane, HFCs and other gases that have short-but-intensive climate impacts after their release into the atmosphere. This talk will explore the politics surrounding mitigation of these gases and whether their near-term impacts lead to different political outcomes than for carbon. In particular, it will consider the issue of reducing methane emissions from oil and gas production in the US, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.
