As a DM myself, I can confirm we wear wizard robes, smoke pipes, and ensure when our players get too cocky we check them.

I do wish the game will keep an actual story log on all the past story events, aka. Players' hard work and Joel's GM decisions, that had happened so far by story date. It would be quite interesting to read after every galactic session.

I love the idea of Joel, regardless of whether or not he really exists. My biggest initial complaint of Helldivers 2 was the lack of a dedicated campaign in what seems to be a really cool world. The metanarrative that Joel seems to be spinning fills that gap wonderfully and is perhaps the best implementation of the Live Service model I've seen. So, as a player, thank you, Joel, I love you so much.

Now. As a Helldiver....

I think the idea of having a Game master that is manipulating things behind the scenes is just genius. Keeps everyone guessing, keeps players on their toes, and keeps the mystery and surprises coming.
Not just when a DLC or patch releases.
Arrowhead is doing great things with this game.
