I love this song and this version is inspired by my favorite live performance of Purple Rain.

That was I grew up in the 80’s playing guitar and never gave Prince a second look. I immediately looked at him as a overhyped pop star who could play numerous instruments adequately but probably master of none of them.

Then I watched him get inducted into the rock and roll HOF. He plaid a set with a bunch of old legends and they played “while my guitar gently weeps” by the Beatles cause it was the year George Harrison died. He did a solo at the end and blew everyone off the stage. I was so impressed that I started looking at some of his live performances. I found a video of him playing purple rain at Syracuse, NY in 85’ and my jaw hit the floor. I’m a huge Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan fan and I’ll now put Prince on that level. Especially as far as feel and soul. I would’ve never believed years ago that I’d say this but he’s that good.

I saw Prince at the Verizon Center in 2004 and he closed his set with Purple Rain. If turn this up and close my eyes I'm taken back there like it was yesterday. I will never ever forget that concert.
