Shanghai Street Food Tour | JianBing - Chinese Breakfast Crepe

In today’s video we explore some of Shanghai’s street food scene.

Our day starts off at Huanghe Road which is a short distance (walkable) from People’s Square. It is littered with street food vendors and is a great spot for an authentic Shanghainese breakfast. We started off with a few steamed baos at what seemed to be a very popular store (judging by their long lines at 7am) of which we have no idea what it’s called due to our inability to read Chinese (help?). Fresh, soft and fluffy with incredibly tasty filling - we were off to the right start! At 1.50RMB ($0.30 AUD), we couldn’t believe how cheap it was.

Next up, we came across JianBing - a Chinese style breakfast crepe. Oh my word! These were the best things to have graced our mouths for a while. So texturally pleasing and absolutely tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the crepe with the crispy fried cracker. So good!

In the evening, we wondered off to Yuyuan gardens which is a beautiful area within Shanghai as well as The Bund - arguably the most famous tourist attraction in all of Shanghai. This day was finally topped off with a comforting dinner at Hai Di Lao, the best hot pot experience we’ve had to date!

Seriously food there looks amazing and you guys did an awesome job showing a ton of different things. That breakfast crepe looked absolutely incredible and that massive soup dumplings was nuts! Hand pulled noodle being done in the middle of the restaurant hasn’t really taken off in the US, but it is so cool! Really loved your guys’ pacing and editing too in this one — nice!

Yo guys, welcome to my birth city. Serious though I struggle to find street food in China and you guys did an awesome job of it. Looks like you got a lot of classic dishes. Pork buns, number ones or (you tao) jian bing, and that friggin insane xiao long bao hahahahaa. The green mochi thing isn't a classic but it does look really tasty especially with the pork floss. Great episode guys, you seem to have gone on such an epic trip! Are you both still traveling?
