The trailer makes it look serious but it's supposed to be a comedy. I think I saw it when I was 8 and remember it being a serious film. But that was 40 years ago. I'll have to rewatch it.

This sums up the 1970s perfectly. Now I know where they got the styling cues for the Austin princess and the TR7 they probably called them unofficially project dark star !.I suddenly want to grow my hair long and buy a eight track to download on to . .lol ..don't know how I missed this film as it was made the year I was born .but for sure the blueprint for many future films .and a warning of using A I inside bombs .Very Good in a way I can't describe .very funny and worth a rewatch with a couple of beers.

I read the book the same year the Star Wars book came out. Dark Star didn't come out until years later. The audience laughed their butts off at the orange beach ball with big feet as THE MONSTER.
