In the first ever season of Top Gear (episode 8), BCC decided to challenge Lotus.
They took the Lada Riva of a Top Gear fan and asked Lotus to modify everything… The idea was to make a sports car from the little Lada!
The total cost: £100.000
Lotus modified almost everything: suspension, bodywork, bespoke interior,… but the most important thing was the engine.
It produced 180+ hp, instead of the original 65 hp, so it could reach a top speed of 237 km/h!!🤪
