Samsung Galaxy A8(2018) In 2020! (Still Worth It?)

Since 2014, the A series have been one of Samsung's most important products alongside their S and Note smartphones.
One of the best phones of the A series is the Galaxy A8 2018. Is the A8 worth in 2020 or should you consider the new A smartphones instead of it?

I have one (A8 plus) for over 18 months now. It's great even comparing with my wife's (much more popular) iPhone XR. Best phone i ever had (besides my Nokia Lumia 710).
Great performance, great memory, high security and plenty of nice features such as IP68 water and dust protection (it does work, had tested several times, and if it's wet, the phone makes a warning in case you try to plug in the charger), NFC for using wireless pay, Dolby Atmos which improves any sound on it, USB-C fast charging (it's fast indeed), Smart View, Always on Display (nice feature), fast fingerprint sensor, 16 mp Dual Front Camera with Live Focus mode (background blur) - great for selfies, Gorilla glass 4 on the front and 5 on the back. Back camera is great to imo, for daily use it has very nice quality.
Plus the cover that comes with the phone is really, really good. Mine still is like a brand new, in mint condition mostly due this cover. Likely one of the best android smartphones you can buy today, costing near a third of its original tag price (or even less). It even has a 3.5 mm earphone jack. And its design is elegant as ever. Mine is "Orchid Gray" color, almost a soft metalic gray with a very gentle purplish tone on it. Can't get enough of this color.
Also, it has a expandable microSD slot, up to 400 GB. For those who like sports, it comes with samsung health app, which is great to use with only the phone, but is indeed better if you have a smartwatch. I have a Galaxy fit and works like a charm. Apparently i won't get android 10 update, but with all complains among those who get the update on other devices, i'm not sure this is a bad thing. As it is now (android 9), it is usable for many years to come.
Techno Arena got it wrong when it said that A30s is "better" than A8 in any category. Well, It's not. By far. The screen resolution, tho both are Super Amoled display, is 441 ppi in A8, and only 268 ppi in A30s. The A8 still got Barometer and Compass sensors, which A30s does not. NFC, only A8 has. DLNA (to transmit your screen to your tv, for example), A8 has, A30s doesn't. The processor A8 has it's 2 processors of 2.2 Ghz - it's 2 of 1.8 Ghz on the A30s (both have 6 processors of 1.6 Ghz). Gorilla Glass? Only on A8. A30 (not A30s) had Gorilla 3. A8 has both Gorilla glass 4 and 5 (back and front). And front camera is wayyy more advanced in A8. So i really don't know what techno arena is talking about A30s being superior to A8. And about S8, tho better specs, won't be greatly noticeable in daily use, but front camera of A8 is better here too, and A8 likely has a cheaper tag price on it.

Summary: Buy a A8/A8 plus in 2020 and be a happy (and smart) person.

I have a A8 My phone works amazing with heavy games like pubg and call of duty without any problem.. battery is amazing, and this phone actually has night mode... only negative part is the 32 gb storage. Other then that this phone is amazing.
I feel this review is very basic and basically just stuck with stating incorrect information.

I had the A8+ back in 2018, used it for 2 years before switching to a OnePlus 7 Pro. I see some comments praising the A8+ or A8 but in my time of using it, it is not so enjoyable at all. Battery is ok but not great, probably 4 or 5 hours of screen on time, and the phone heats up very fast, especially on calls, or video calls and gaming, and idle cpu temps was always hovering at 50+ degrees

I have a8 for over 2 and a half years. My expereince with it:

-Camera is great exept at night.
-Atleast 2 friends mentioned that apps run too slow
-Slightest touch to charging cable stops charging.
-Random wet usb hole errors when no water is applied
-Can't connect usb to pc to upload photos
-Battery life used to be great but not anymore
-Slipery in hands, but feels awesome to hold
-Games runs smoothly, but it feels it could be better
-32gb space is not enough



I don't know if thats just me, but my usb hole is giving me headache like atleast 2 times a day. And I have to take off the cover and put it back on when I want to charge the phone. Its just annoying.

Overall I am disappointed. It's a good phone, but I hoped that I'd wanted to be holding it for longer than 3 years...
I am thinking on upgrading to S10+ I hope I will have more enjoynment with it, otherwise I will stop trying my luck with samsung phones for good.

My A8's battery life is not great, and the CPU heats up very hot under heavy stress, camera became terrible after some updates, unable to carry out heavy games, but the good thing is the screen, vibrant and sharp colours, speaker, and fast charging
