I think what you mean, Alex, is that as photographers, we should take a sincere interest in our subjects. It will allow them to open up and allow us to focus on capturing a state of mind.

Doisneau is probably the only photographer that almost everyone knows in France and it's not random. I agree with you about the differences between him and Cartier-Bresson. The photographic performance vanishes behind the subject, the story that's told. I'd like to mention another name. Doisneau was part of a strong tradition of the "humanist photographers" in France and I think Willy Ronis was also fantastic. His book "Belleville & Ménilmontant" is a masterpiece in my opinion.

I have been photographing my children for 16 years and only one photo comes to mind of them just being themselves that stands out in my brain. And I have some gorgeous photos of them (imo) In a way it is sad that I have only one of them being themselves but in another way I am so happy to have one. So thank you for opening my eyes a little going to ponder and try to be more aware…when shooting.

Always love the clean unbiased approach to your vid so thankyou. Being from New Zealand we love Marmite and I love the phrase Marmite photography, and with your permission might use that term to describe my creativity. The one feeling i get learning about these photographers is a sense of humbleness, and just appreciation …

Doisneau's photo of the kill reminds me of the Eisenstaedt photo of the sailor kissing the nurse after the end of WWII. Has that same sense of happiness and recovery.

If it helps, Doisneau is pronounced a little like Dwa-no. And Rineke is Ree-nicker. You got Dijkstra perfectly accurately though! It just so happens that for once I've heard of these three- thanks to this channel! I went looking for more photographers a while back, after the advice of TPE, and these are among those I found.

Thoroughly enjoyable, Alex. And this “armchair chat” format brings out what’s the strongest and most appealing in your channel. Always excellent insights 😁🙌🏽🙌🏽

So very true Mr. Alex Kilbee mastering the use of available light may be seem simple but its not! All light modifyers come from how nature filters the light. Thank you for all the great content you make on your great channel!

Patrick's son, Viktor, still shoots. I got an RZ from Patrick in the 90s and used it all the time.

I appreciate the humility and honesty that you display in your videos. Every one of us dismisses someone or something based on an old idea. Sometimes we can open up and move beyond those old ideas. It's then that we are able to peal the onion and learn something new. Thanks!

After leaving a presentation of yours, such as this, it causes me to do some deep reflection on my own photography; I must say it makes me want to up my game little more. I do see some baby steps of progression, so I would like to say cheers to your work & thank you

always makes me feel better as a student of photog when I have studied the people in the lesson prior to watching the program. nice job putting the works together. i take a different take on HCB, but that would take a bar and ale or martinis. yes, all inspiring.

You don't learn from other photographers if they are not in the public eye. I have learned many points about photography from others here on YT. I try what they say and if I find they work then it goes into my mind to use later. Do I remember all of it, no, but there are times it will hit me when in a situation that I will remember and change my settings accordingly.
