Citroen Basalt Review: Surprise Package?

preview_player
Показать описание
The new Citroen Basalt is a compact coupe SUV. It is based on the same platform as Citroen’s other mass market products in India such as the C3 hatchback and C3 AirCross SUV.
Citroen Basalt price in India starts at Rs 7.99 lakh. We expect the top model to cost around Rs 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

The body style is unique, and the only direct rival is the Tata Curvv. However, it also competes against other SUVs in the category such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
Why should you consider the Basalt, and why not?

That's a lot of car for the asking price! No nonsense car made for a purpose of creating those memorable drives with family and friends!! No amount of tech or features can match that comfortable magic carpet ride. Let the rookies enjoy the other cars with all the assistance tech from the world. This is for the people who know what a real car is and value the joy of driving.

I didnt think that Basalt would turn out to be this good looking. I think this design is more cohesive than that of the Curvv (not sure why Tata designers thought glossy wheel areches would be a good idea in traffic conditions such as ours). Curvv looks fantastic from the back cuz it draws inspiration from the Urus, but somehow neither of the front designs really gel with the rear.

Anyways, back to the Basalt. I am yet to drive the Citroen range, but I have heard they offer good drivability even with a NA engine (C3). A couple of things I wish Citroen did differently, first one are the door handles. They look just awful on an otherwise good looking vehicle. Small things like an adjustable center headrest (some drop down completely so as to not obstruct the rear view), load sensors (Even Maruti and few other manufacturers do it sadly). Cruise Control, with Indian getting newer expressways in every corner, something as simple as Cruise Control would have been a blessing.
What I hate about Citroen so far is the incremental updates they have been doing. People who purchased a few months prior will feel shortchanged. First it was power mirrors, now power-folding, Climate control etc. The issue isn't with updates, but they are coming every few months as increments. That feels like they lack vision of what the market needs.
Also, about the crash tests, even the non-updated C3 series will score higher in BNCAP as it is less stringent. The improvement in safety (how much or if at all) will only be known if both versions are tested with same regulations.
Another well put together review by the ZW team. Extra brownie points for always doing a proper boot space test. 😁

I am gonna still blame Citroen for only one thing though....where the freak is the YELLOW colour variant they teased us with???? That looked amazing and fill of life

TRUE DAT! Real customers wanting a real car wouldnt be disappointed!
I heard someone say, we live in a country of Karol bagh modifications, "BASE TO TOP".
People buy base models of a 20 lakh rupee car (CRETA or GV) and flaunt it like theyre the richest mfs.
I think Citroen learnt that people mostly buy base models and put in music systems, and that is what they have offered.

Given how comfy the rear seat is, I see the Basalt as an absolute hit with the chauffeur driven crowd on this segment who’d want the prestige of a sedan but the ground clearance of an SUV

They have a definite winner on hand. Is it as spacious as the Creta??

Thanks for the great review !!
So given that we should compare it with the NA engines of the vitara, creta, seltos, which car has better driving pleasure in terms of engine, comfort etc?

Where is this Citroen manufactured? By any chance Ranjangaon, Pune? Awesome review. Honestly this design looks better than Curv and dimensions wise both would be same isnt it?

Great to see the price point. But they can push the price point of higher trims with all the bells and whistles to give the customers much more to choose from.

People aren't buying Citroen not because they have missing features, it is because the dashboard design doesn't appeal instantly, forget soft touch materials. Why would you sit in a car that feels exactly like the entry level car despite paying more money? Models should differentiate themselves, only then they become aspirational.

All Youtubers are making fool by showing the Turbo variant with the Price of 7.99L whereas the 7.99L variant is Non turbo with a Torque of 115 Nm.
