Corn Harvesting - After Dark

Who said all farm work goes on in daylight? I take a ride on the combine as we harvest our corn. This particular field was our highest yielding location of the year.

That's one of the 2 jobs I look forward too all year. That and running my old 5 bottom plow

If I ever moved out of Iowa...one of the first things I would miss would be the fall harvest- the sights, the smells, the endless miles of corn ripe for hunting geese/ducks/pheasants in November who go on a feeding binge eating all the waste corn that the combines seem to miss. One field we hunt is often littered with full ears of popular field with the critters!

Maybe two weeks. Next Sunday I may post a harvesting soybeans video, then follow up the next week with part 2. It depends how busy I am if I have the time to devote to putting the videos together.

Nice video. To me, farming is a true test of wits. Like any career, it has some pitfalls, but hard work, good planning, common sense, uncommon sense, and a bit of luck can really make a good living. And you are your own boss. There is no blaming anyone else if you fail.

We need a setup like that on our farm you were using at the end to store wheat seed as we’ve got some storage bins that have to have the seed blown up it by air and we can’t find anyone around here that can do it

I have seen some equipment that does silage bailing. Is that an option for silage feed?

Ok... 2.2 mph at 1330 rpm on the threshing cylinder... I thought it looked like you were going pretty slow... makes sense though.

Good video and good job! OL J R :)

It looks like you're running a poly 6 row corn head in this video and in the current videos you are running an older all metal style? Was this your grandpa's head and combine? And if so why didn't you guys buy it at the sale?

never heard of anybody using a silo to store grain corn before, interesting idea though i guess i cant really think of any reason why it wouldnt work other then trying to dry it is probably difficult
