"Like the color of my homeland's flag. Sweet mother Canada." That was a plot twist.

I love how the phone guy just kept repeating the same thing, all while playing on his phone.

As a native English speaker with a bachelor of English, I had to look up what a parenthetical statement was.

Well, the thing is, even if you speak perfect English with a Downtown Abbey accent and you graduated from Cambridge or Oxford and you're a great teacher with years of experience, the Chinese employers don't give a damn if you're not from the US/Canada/UK. They'd rather give the job to a high school grad from Wyoming who can't differentiate your you're and your rather than hire a professional english teacher from Russia. That's why people trying to get a job in China often pose as native English speakers to get hired.

As a native English speaker who has taught English, I think that people who had learned English as a second or third language are a lot better at teaching English off the bat than native English speakers. A lot of natives of trouble explain some grammar points that seem very natural to native English speakers, like the explaining the difference between saying "I yelled at you" and "I yelled to you", or why you can say "I gave the apple to you" but you can't say "I gave the apple at you." Of course with experience people can do it, but I found that pervious English learners are a lot better at explaining those things naturally.

Similar to how some native English teachers who don't give a fuck teach.
And many non-native speakers are actually more educated and in general more fit to teach.

That reminded me of my Chinese classes. You ask Chinese teachers to work on your pronunciation, explain some difficult parts of grammar and all you hear is "You're a foreigner, you will never speak correctly/understand grammar/". So we practice how to buy something over and over again.
That happened in Shanghai. I prefer qualified Russian teachers since then.
