Lucy Maud Montgomery was a prolific Canadian author and national icon. But despite her success, she had a hard life. She struggled with depression, anxiety and doubt.

This biography details the battles she faced, but also pays tribute to the fact that her work has kept millions of people happy, all over the world, for over a century.

This biography is part of a series of talks I've prepared on notable Torontonians. For more information, you can contact me at the following.

Highly creative people can also be highly sensitive people and experience things more intensely than others.
God bless Lucy Maud Montgomery for the wonderful stories she shared with us.

Brilliantly told, honest and enlightening about an author I did not have much knowledge of. The books, yes, just not LMMs' lifestory. thanks for the telling.Wonderful phots and art.

Have you considered to do another presentation on Maud Montgomery? Yours was my first introduction to her life and I like how you present. I wonder what documents and time correlations with her health you would find on her legal fights with publishers.

L. M. Montgomery also had a severe case of the lethal 1918 influenza, as described in this video. Depression and mental illness are things we should openly discuss, and so too are the terrible sequelae of many viral illnesses. In the past few years this has been under the global spotlight. I do not wish to harm this channel via YouTube algorithms, so will not detail what is in my mind. I am sure readers know.

We cannot at this time say what brought about the author's death or what caused her to apparently suffer depression in her life. My point is, many were permanently damaged from the 1918 flu and many are today damaged in the aftermath of various viral illnesses. All too often this kind of damage is neurological, for instance ME/CFS, of which depression and anxiety can be part of the symptomatology.

Altogether, a very good biography.

As an antidote to mental despairs alongside the study of nature are the acts of helping others, central to the teaching of Jesus and Gandhi and well expressed and lived by Coretta amd Martin Luther King. "An Individual has not started living fully until they can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of humanity. Every person must decide at some point, whether they will walk in light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. This is the judgment: Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?' As quoted by Coretta Scott King in The Words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: Second Edition (2011), Ch. "Community of man", p. 3"
