Top quality bodge job, posts should be concreted in place, joists too small, no weed suppressant, screw the joists and hangers, use the composite clips to hide the board fixings and that screw wand tool just tops it off! Excellent illustration of how not to install a deck.

Good work and simple instructions. I think even I could build it. 😀😀 Thanks Steve!

Would've been better if concrete blocks, 2x6s, and deck screws were used to build this. Would be prettier too if picture framing was applied.

Do I really need the posts if my backyard is hard and clay? I am thinking to make a deck the same level as the lown and excavate to set the frame in the clay. My deck will be 12x10’

i was wondering if you needed cement for the footings but seem like you just pushed them into the ground. I have hard clay it wouldn't work for me.

Why a 2x4 frame? Seems undersized. Thanks.

Thank you for the Deck building Video. Why not add Joist Butyl tape on top of the joist to prevent from rot?

So I didn’t see u put any weed barrier down. The grass and elements were all there and the deck pretty much sat on the ground nice job but 🤔😬I’d like to c that same deck in 2 yrs🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm afraid this looks like a "handyman-quality" deck job, but maybe there were homeowner budget limitations. Nice video and building instructions though.

No cement, will that last and up to code

I’ve been looking for a video to follow to build my own ground level deck and this is one of the more DIY-able ones I’ve seen. Question though, in most videos I’ve seen, the posts are usually reinforced with concrete. Any reason why that wasn’t done here? Is it dependent on the soil in a particular area? Thanks

It's an ok job. Proper way is to install a mitered edge with the composite board around the entire deck and also have the perimeter board pass the edge of your 2x4 framing so it covers your facia board. Your deck is ok for an amateur builder

There are a lot of good videos on YouTube regarding how to properly build a deck.

This is *not* one of them.

A really nice feature of the 2x4 framing is that's as close to the ground as you can get.

Less tripping or falling risk than anything besides a slab on grade.

That Weardeck is pretty sweet needing support only 24" OC.

Bout the biggest change I'd make is get a lighter color as composite decking gets pretty hot in the sun, in my limited experience.

Wondering if the local code enforcer does inspections of decks to make sure they were built according to code.

Dont follow this if your trying to go by code or have your deck last for more than 3 years.

You should have gone bigger and 1 additional foot further away from the wall. I would prefer 20' x 35', if you have the space available in the backyard, even though it a bit more costly.
