The bikeshedding any attempt to unify packaging across all major distros would attract would be legendary. Choosing the name alone would likely take a decade...

It wont be an April fools joke anymore once Guix becomes mainstream, right after they finish up GNU Hurd.

Flatpak often leaves older libraries when updating, so you have to run a separate command to remove them.

First, congratulations on reaching 100K @BrodieRobertson

Second, thank you for featuring our article in the video and highlighting the subtle humor attempts in it, specially the Greenland part. Not many people noticed that :)

The graphics I used was based on a previous schematic diagram in Canva and I was rushing to complete and publish it and didn't see that text was out of the box in the final generated image.

17 packaging formats was just a random number.

'actually deleting' part was for the leftover dependency programs that may or may not be removed.

I think the "actually deleting" part is in refetence to installing dependencies and not removing them when the main program is removed.

My only problem with April fools online is that the algorithm keeps pushing the false information for a whole week. On April 5th, half of my feeds was still false information without any disclaimers. It is funny on April 1st, and perhaps April 2nd, it's not funny on April 5th.

There is also a problem of defining when April 1st is. From the earliest start of the day, to the latest start of the day, there is 26 hours. Adding the normal 24 hour day onto this, we have 50 hours that it is April 1st somewhere. On the very edges, April 1st starts March 30th your time, or ends April 3rd your time. That's too long for my tastes.

The wildest thing that happened was seeing a video stating that Flakes on NixOS were finally on a stable release. lol

A similar April Fools article was "DOGE Mandates Power Tool Manufacturers Use Single Battery Platform", the whole time I was thinking "thank god" and then I saw the april fools tag.

0:27 There is no fun in cases like the one this video is about. "Hey, this thing you really wanted, that is your (potentially biggest) dream. It got announced. But not actually, because April Fools!" It happens far too often. It is just really mean.

I would have no problem with April fools if people just kept to the spirit of it. No telling people there family member just died. No saying you got a puppy for a kid only to get them an empty box. (Nothing that has happened to me but just stuff I’ve seen). When it’s jokes that are funny and harmless, fine. Screw up someone’s entire project or day pretending to delete files the duck up and delete them. THATS not funny

Windows also bundles all the required libraries, but we have less backwards compatability with some syscalls.

App Image is basically a read-only self-extracting Mac .App

10:37 And pretty sure this is in reference to removing dependencies required by removed packages. I've been running Arch for like about the past year at this point, And because I'm a blithering idiot, For like the first six months of that, I only removed the base packages and forgot to actually remove any additional dependencies. So I had like 15 gigabytes of useless dependencies on my system.

I'm wondering how the Nix package manager would fit into the one package system.
Also, Nix doesn't necessarily delete packages you don't have "installed" simply because you could want to use them in nix-shells which are for transient usage of packages.
Nix also comes with a garbage collector tho.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS.
I HATE IT. WHY DOES IT EXIST!!?

The lack of a universally adopted packaging format is perhaps the biggest reason why Linux will never break out of its niche bubble.
