I've gotten that text.
Four hour bus ride to a different city and I knocked on his door fucking terrified. He answered not having done the job yet and looked fucking aghast at seeing me. One of the moments I ever felt the most relief.

True story; went through this as one of my best friends and roommate at the time had sent me this text at like 2 PM on a Sunday about a month after his mom passed. I didn’t even think about calling, I didn’t need to ask, and I sprinted home as fast as I could. Luckily I was like maybe a 5 minute walk away at another buddy’s house party, and made it home quick. Had to kick the bathroom door down and pull him out the bathtub before he did anything he would regret. That was like 6 years ago now, and we still talk and hang out all the time. Check on your buddies, especially when they’re going through the worst times, and take care of yourself too. That type of shit is traumatizing to go through, and you just have a responsibility to be the best man you can be.

i got a text that said “i love you, goodbye” from one of my best friends a few months ago, raced to her house, broke a window to get to her, and found out she was with two other girls and they just wanted to prank me. needless to say i’m not friends with them anymore and they paid for the new window.

Got a phone call from my best friend one day. Unfortunately my phone was on DND as I was making dinner for my family at the time and didn’t want to be distracted. I happened to break my own rule when I was going to skip a song on my Spotify, and I glanced at my notifications. She didn’t call me very often so I was confused when I saw she not only called but left a voice mail. I listened to the voicemail and IMMEDIATELY called her. Stayed on the phone for 4-5 hours. It’s been 2 years since and I still have the voice mail to this day. Scariest thing I’ve ever heard in my life, and to make it worse, during the full voicemail, she sounded completely calm.

One year ago today, I witnessed something I never wanted to see but I’m glad I did. My friend texted me I love you bro, thanks for everything. The thing about my friend was that both of his parents unfortunately died, and he was adopted, we became close over a couple of years, he already was depressed when I met him but I did everything I could to cheer him up. When I got that text, I ran out my house and sprinted 5 blocks at max speed in crocs, shorts and no shirt to run into his adopted family’s house and sprint up those stairs to see him about to stick a needle in him, I threw the needle onto the ground and started to cry and yell at him. He’s still here to this day and he thanks me every waking moment for saving him.

Had a friend send this in our group chat and I still remember us convincing him to hop in a call since he was hours away and we talked with him from 10pm to 4am and now he is going to college and the happiest he’s been.

funny story my friend texted me “i love you” at exactly 3:56 in the morning while i was asleep. the notification woke me up and i have never sprinted down 8 streets in pjs through near hurricane weather. arrived in 3 minutes and found him holding a bottle of benadryl. hes still here and is actually in my house right now

edit: just wanted to mention that he is in therapy and is doing much better. he has been clean for nearly three years now :)
