This happend to me, I got emergency finger surgery at my local hospital, and I visited the surgeon at his office for a follow up...a year later his office said he doesn't take my insurance and I owed him $ 5k....

Btw he drove a Maserati to his office

My brother got one of those bills for $5, 500. He had a surgery at a hospital and used the surgeon his insurance company directed him to but they told him after his surgery that they would not be covering the anesthesiology bill because the anesthesiologist the surgeon used was not in his plan? No it didn't bankrupt him but it did some financial damage. Americans arer poorly served by people like Rich Neal....another powerful corporate ghoul. Thanks for covering this!

This has happened to me all 3 times I went to the emergency room for chest pain. I even asked for an in network doctor the last time I went so this wouldn't happen to me again and was told by the we have no way of telling which doctor is out of network" I didn't even get the reduced price that a hospital charges insurance companies. The insurance company said..."there's nothing we can do about this, and it won't do any good to fight it.". All this, and yet I have really great insurance from a steel mill., but they still were able to get away with this.
