The 0-60 paradigm has shifted so much that supercars get beat to 60 by Kias and Hyundais. There will always be quicker cars, but the i8 has a unique presence that is almost unmatched. I have had an i8 for 6 1/2 years and I still look forward to every drive - and It still feels quick to me. The torque to weight ratio is actually quite high. Btw, the displacement of the 3 cylinder is 1.5 liters. Glad you appreciate the car, it’s special.

I have an i8. And a McLaren, so I know what owning a quick and fast car is all about. Here's how to make the i8 a LOT faster than stock: Have Alex Meyer @ Yorkshire DPF Centre tune it for you and add a Pedal Commander. My 0-60 went from 4.4 to 3.78 second dragy/satellite verified. The above combo will have more instant torque and a bit more mid-range but it still won't have top end. In gear acceleration will also improve. And I still average about 38 MPG (U.S.) As for the features you mentioned, I hate the automatic collision system. It has gotten tripped up a few times when racing and it goes into limp mode. It's easy to correct (turn off car), but it's annoying. My dealer can't figure out why it happens every 3 months for no reason, then goes away.

The i8 is the best kept secret. Most are afraid of the repair cost but honestly, it’s very reliable if maintained and checked frequently. A lot of the parts are shared with other bmw’s so buying new/used parts are easy to come by. As long as you don’t bring it to the dealer, you’ll be fine. Use an ISTA and repair yourself or to a trusted indy.

I owned one for 5 years. Just changed to a Taycan Turbo, so much faster but have to say, I will miss the i8, felt light and was a great drive with no major issues. Nothing really like it and struggled to find a worthy replacement!

I think BMW could've made this car absolutely legendary by giving it a V8, even if it would've cost 300k+. There are enough wealthy people out there who could've afforded that. Either way, this car has a phenomenal design and I am still hoping to own one some day.

I thoroughly enjoy this car! Getting in and out just takes a few times to get used to and then it becomes a breeze. I love all it has to offer very quick and when goning thru town, no gas. Still to this day heads turn and cameras come out. Way ahead of its time!
