I love the longer form and hearing your thought process as you are painting. Thanks!

Loved watching this, Mike. Love your troubleshooting explanations at the beginning too.

I struggle a bunch with saturated, high key, luminous colors in oil - oranges, pinks. Best solution I’ve found is to either rub out the underpainting back to the white gesso, or apply titanium white and let it dry in the area I want to saturate. Then I come in with a transparent color like quin magenta or transparent orange and glaze in the saturation over the existing tone. I find it super difficult to get to the desired saturation if I’m working on wet paint.

Alternatively I’ll just tone the whole canvas something outrageous and bright and block in where I don’t want the saturation showing. 😂 But I do a lot of really bright red sandstone fm types of paintings that involve lots of those colors.

Thanks again for sharing, really like watching these real time process ones!

You make really great videos! They make oil painting less intimidating and it encourages people to try it out. I love that experiment a lot and tell people to just go for it!

I’m really enjoying your channel. I’m just looking at starting to paint oils moving from Watercolor. I like your approach from beginning to end and will be trying this out in the next week.

I loved the way you added the reflective sunlight on the waves. Just the right balance needed.

Thank you.

Loved this real time video. I felt like I went through the creative process with you and I learned a lot. Please make more like this. An interesting thing about the subject your choose, the cool colours were in the foreground and the warm colours were in the background.

Very informative. You can see colors and shapes that most painters miss and I hope you paint a larger one in the future.

At 24:15 some of the toned canvas comes through giving a nice luminating color for the reflected light on the water. It's real nice! ⛱

I love this painting! It was really fun to get to experience the process in real time. Makes me want to go to the beach for sunset, but that can’t happen right now. This will do for now. Great work!

Oh nice! It's always great to see how a good painter builds up a painting...thanks for this. It's incredible the way you take your "artistic licence" out of your plein air experience and give the painting a personal touch to improve the photo.

As a Florida painter, I needed this. Also I am going to use smaller canbvases for studies.

I'm sorry if you've already answered this question, but what is the main reason artists cover canvas with burnt sienna ? to get warm undertones or something else ?
