This is the view from the lone freeway leading you to Venice, Louisiana. This is the classic picture of wetland loss and wetland erosion that is gripping the lower Mississippi River and Mississippi Delta thanks to (primarily) the leveeing of the River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that began 80 years ago.
