Backyard Football UK localization gameplay

Backyard Football has a backyard, several feet, and a ball. But this isn't Backyard Football?? Well, no it isn't, but it also is. This is Backyard Soccer, as released in 1999 in the United Kingdom. It turns out the UK release was modified to change soccer to football, both on screen and in voiced dialogue, and a few other tweaks such as changing color to colour. It's still the same voices from Seattle that you know and love, no Paris voices here. As far as I know this is the only game which was modified for UK release before Infogrames bought GT Interactive... but I don't really know for sure honestly.

The existence of this localization is honestly rather surprising. Backyard Soccer on PS1 was released in Europe a few years later under the title Junior Sports Football/Fussball, complete with new French and German localizations, but the English release had identical voice acting to the American version, resulting in Sunny Day and Earl Grey still referring to the sport as soccer. And this localization's existence was barely documented at all. Oh yeah, like the French and Dutch localizations from this time period, they added Laserlock DRM to the game... yaaaay.

From what I've seen, they kept most of the U.S. dialouge and voices outside of re-recording mentions of "soccer" to "football", which is interesting since most other U.K. releases oddly rewrites the dialouge and re-dubs them despite the game originally on English. Also, there is absolutely no lip-synching on the intro with Sunny Day and Earl, which I think it's common for the U.K. releases of Humongous' games even though they're originally in English.
