Help me, Holy Spirit! Help me to patient with the musicians. Help me to be kind to the Too Loud crew. Help me to be understanding when random people ask random questions thinking that I'm the head pastor. Help the cafe to provide coffee because I was first in. Help me to remember that it's all about the low end. Oh yeah, and help me Holy Spirit so that our skilzzz and equipment provide distractionless worship. Amen!

lastly, the text mentions two other aspects worth noting ... Bezalel & Oholiab were given the task to train other willing workers to achieve the goals that Moses had received from God and had entrusted them with (EX 35:34 & EX 36:2)

I've just found your channel today, and I had ran sound for a band doing gigs nearly 18 years ago and was alright at it. I have just in the last 6 weeks gotten back into doing sound for a church worship band (was going to play drums, but the drummer they had play the week after i played is 1000 times better than me). I had felt all excited about playing in a band again, and when that happened i sure felt deflated and unappreciated. I felt content to help run sound, and this video had hit me right in the gut and was exactly what I needed to help me understand my role and importance to the band themselves sounding good for worship time during the service. THANK YOU! and also HELP ME HOLY SPIRIT to become the best sound tech i can be. I know its not for my glory, or the worship teams glory, but for GOD'S glory alone. I need the help! I do well and it has sounded good, i just know my EQing, and effects and mixes can always sound better.

Help me Holy Spirit.

Good word! I'm the sound guy who also rotates to the stage occasionally, but I'm also a deacon, teacher, and missionary in the church. Sound is probably the most important thing in a service that no one should focus on. The goal of the sound tech is to be as transparent as possible. That said, I know that I have the power to put people to sleep or keep them awake during the sermon. The pastor's feed is the one I put more care into than any other. I focus on eliminating those Charlie Brown wah-wah frequencies that lull people to sleep and drawing out those frequencies of the formants and consonants that make his speaking crystal clear. I compress his transients so when he get loud people hear the change in timbre without their ears hurting and run parallel compression to bring up those soft parts where he leans in. Once again, change in timbre rather than a huge volume swing.

As for sound in the Bible, just think of the shofar that was blown to announce the sacrifice. It's hardly mentioned although we know that it was used. Much less do we know who blew one. But we do have "trumpets" mentioned from time to time. While we can point to music being played, especially in the Psalms, shofars or trumpets were the loudspeakers of the day and were used for important communication. More recently we know that the military has used bugle calls, which is now merely tradition and ceremony. Just like that shofar blower, we as sound techs manage the transparent medium for bringing the message of Christ through music and Word.

Help me Holy Spirit! Thank you for making these videos! I'm the first person at my church to mess with anything other than a volume slider. And even with my lack of experience, just following some of your guides on EQ and compression in your videos, the sound is so much better. Your are absolutely right when you say that just because your church is called to simplicity, that is no excuse to sound bad.

This was absolutely fantastic James. I am beginning to send out weekly encouragement to my tech teams and this is a beautiful, biblical, depiction of our purpose and how we need to work with the Holy Spirit. Thank you and hope to see way more content like this! You are sincerely the reason our church sound is now bearable and slowly improving. God bless you my friend! -Matt
