Your videos are hilarious! I like fishing with my Springer Spaniel mix, Pongo, and he loves it as well. He will bark and squeak really loud when I hook and land a fish and then swim around searching for it once I release it. Dogs are super fun!

I used to take care of a friends hunting dog. The first time, when she was still a puppy, she ate a hole in my new waders. Other than that she always wanted to fetch my casts. I remember once she fetched an eight inch pike fly on a 3/0 hook. Brought it to me without getting hooked, somehow. Goldie (RIP) was a mediocre hunting dog, on a good day, but I was her favorite person, including her owner.

My former fishing dog a German Shorthair Pointer was perfect while out fishing. Would just sit next to me and stare at the water waiting for me to catch something. Unfortunately he passed away last fall from old age. I have since gotten another GSP and have to teach him fishing manners. Don’t plan on doing much actual fishing, mostly training the first few trips until he gets it.

Willie loves to go fishing weighing in at 80lbs great for wading, keeps himself occupied all day and let me know when bears and moose are around . When just my wife and I go in the boat I just pull the rear lean bar out and he has tons of room . Once in doesn’t move around much . Absolutely correct on dogs have NO concept of how to get un tangled, none . But that’s just another reason we love them . Two names you missed that are popular here in SW Montana, Sage and Winston :-)

Best fishing dog is a mutt, 40-70 lbs. They're big enough to take care of themselves (not raptor bait) and can handle most water. I like fishing with dogs because of the companionship and it's fun to watch all the goofy things they do, right up to the point where they insinuate themselves into the process of landing a fish. Puppies, on the other dealing with one now.

My dog is a nightmare when fishing. He runs back and forth when I'm casting and then dives into the water to fetch the fly back. I have many blank days.

My old yeller dog Bud was the greatest fishing dog ever. Current mutt Willy is also companionable and adventure-loving, but his insane urge to fetch means you need to be very careful about casting with him around. Great little buddy though.
