A video and photos shared by Italian tour guide David Battaglino show the young tourist at the Colosseum on Friday, apparently carving her initial into a wall of the nearly 2,000-year-old amphitheater.
Battaglino reported the defacement to site security, who then reported it to Italian authorities.
The incident is part of an alarming trend. Per reports, a different teenage visitor was allegedly caught defacing the Colosseum the next day. And last month, 27-year-old Ivan Dimitrov was visiting from the UK when he was filmed carving his name and the name of his fiancée into the monument.
Each of the alleged vandals faces 2 to 5 years in prison and fines of up to €15,000.
