About the artist:
Jessiby Dickinum emerged as a soulful voice in the heart of the blues scene during the late 1960s and early 1970s, weaving tales of love, loss, and redemption with his raw, emotive vocals and masterful piano playing. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois alongside his brother and other popular artist - Leonard Dickinum. Jessiby was steeped in the traditions of the blues and soul music from an early age. In 1972, Dickinum unleashed his breakout hit, "B*tches Love Me," a gritty and provocative anthem that captured his raw, infectious energy. The song struck a chord with audiences across the country, propelling Dickinum to stardom and solidifying his place in music history. As "B*tches Love Me" climbed the charts and dominated the airwaves, Dickinum found himself thrust into the spotlight, headlining shows at iconic venues such as the Chicago Blues Club and the Apollo Theater. His electrifying performances and soul-stirring ballads captivated audiences of all backgrounds, earning him a devoted following and critical acclaim. Although his massive success was not without controversy. In 1973, Jessiby became a topic of nationwide discourse after refusing to go to Vietnam after being selected for the draft. When asked about the controversy by Jet Magazine in 1976, he was quoted as saying "I could give a darn about those haters.... my B*tches love me". A true legend and icon.

We played this song at my wedding in 1973. It's 2024 and my husband and I are still together. He's still on that "good kush and alcohol". 😂 ❤ Thanks for sharing. ❤

I remember meeting Jessiby after one of his performances in 76. I'm 64 now and it was by far one of the best shows i have ever witnessed in my life. He was so down to earth.

I remember belting out this song at the top of my lungs during Catholic Youth summer camp in '72. A nun slapped me, but it was worth it.
