Показать описание
SPOKANE, Wash. -- A new fire popped up Sunday morning within Spokane city limits.
The brush fire was burning on Thorpe Rd. near the south side of Hwy. 195. Spokane Co. Emergency Management issued Level 2 evacuations, meaning PREPARE TO LEAVE AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE for those in the area north to Thorpe, south to 44th, west to Merryweather and east to Hwy. 195.
The evacuations have been downgraded to Level 1, meaning GET READY TO LEAVE.
Thorpe Rd. was shut down just before noon near Hwy. 195. It has since reopened.
According to Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer, the fire was started near a transient camp, and the cause was determined to be from illegal camping.
KXLY's Bronte Sorotsky could see one firefighting helicopter working above the fire. At least 15 acres were burned by 12:30 p.m.
There were limited fire crews at the scene because they were already being stretched between the Gray fire in Medical Lake and the Oregon fire near Elk.
