My son and I worked a long time on a tourist railroad on weekends. My son loved working on the steam engine. When he died from a hit and run accident, I took his ashes to the railroad. I was in the locomotive cab and threw his ashes in the firebox while running. The throttle was opened wide and away he went with whistle blowing.. One of the engine crew was in tears. What a send off!

Thank you Kari.
People needed the clarity of "NO"!

In California the cremation/transportation permit requires a named destinstion for the cremains.

People need to be warned in any case about the identity disk in the cremains. Illicit scattering parties could be found out.

I suppose someone could take a page out of the Shawshank Redemption and take spread the cremains one handful at a time like Andy did his wall in the exercise yard.

My Dad wanted to be cremated and his ashes scattered in Long Island sound. Well, MOST of Dad’s ashes were scattered in New Haven Harbor (he said they’d get to LI Sound eventually). I put some in the sand trap of the 6th hole of the back none at Goodwin Park golf course (he was a grounds keeper and played every day) and buried a vial of his ashes where my Mom is buried. I will be cremated, my ashes mixed with my cat’s ashes and scattered at Bolton Lake. Permission? Nah!

That actually taught me something on some level or another. I didn't think there was actual bone left over after the cremation process. I had figured the finished product or matter was fine dust. You know like from dust we came to dust we go. If it were entirely ashes that were left over I can't even imagine who would know and therefore care for that matter. It's nature at it's finest, simply put dust poured out on dust.

Kari does the crematory charge extra to just dispose of the remains themselves???? My dad took my mom’s ashes home to their house where they have remained for years! It freaks my kids out-they don’t even like going over there! After I saw their reaction, I told my husband not to bring my remains home if I pass before him. So can the crematory just dispose of the remains? Tia

Thank you I wasn’t aware I still have my mom’s ashes and was planning on going to the last place we went together to the beach. Now I’ll have to look into it.

Thank you Kari for making that clear. Most folks don't know the laws about that. Well done! But looking at the surroundings that looks suspiciously like the Lansing area here)

Needed to be said and emphasized, thank you Kari!

Thanks. Everything else I've watched is about 'unique ideas' for 'loved ones' and I'm just trying to find what the minimum I can (legally) do is.
