Another Tip:
If you plan on walking a lot for an event like Community Day, feed a Poffin or use the "Fast Buddy Excited" method to get your Buddy excited, cause the walking requirement to earn a Candy and Mega Energy will be cut in half!

Don't forget you can trade a megapokemon that you've Mega evolved and whoever gets it doesn't need to pay the full cost to start

Another Tip (Underated):
Get your buddy (pokemon) you want to mega evolve, use the sock method, shake up and down, usually 3km pokemons (Around 13-17 minutes), once you're done, it will register!!

Sock methods estimate times (buddies):
0.5km pokemon (excited): Around 3-5 minutes
1km pokemons: Around 5-9 minutes
1.5km pokemons (excited): Around 7-9 minutes
2.5km pokemons (excited): Around 11-13 minutes
3km pokemons: Around 13-17 minutes
5km pokemons: Around 21-25 minutes
10km pokemons (excited): Around 42-46 minutes
20km pokemons (legendaries/mythicals/ultra beasts): Around 84-87 minutes

Note 1: Around 0.24 km per minute using the sock method.
Note 2: It still works, if you turn on adventure sync!!

The issue with this method is the field research is so hard to find :(

Hopefully there will be research tasks or a timed research that award Mega Gengar energy or even Mega Absol energy in October.
The last Mega Raid I did, was last year when Mega Gengar came out. But if Absol would have been available when Genesect was out, I surely would have done some Mega Absol Raids.
I will probably focus on Timburr or Shinx if available for the Shiny till Giratina arrives.

Pro tip:
If there's a pokemon that doesn't have Mega Energy in research, just trade an already Mega evolved pokemon from another Player/Trainer and make that pokemon as your buddy and walk till you have the candy to Mega evolve the pokemon of same line.

Other tip: also you can always earn mega energy for charizard in inviting old player to play again or new player by referral.

For people that aren’t strong enough or don’t have friends to play with, this is a good method to mega evolve ur Pokémon like me when I started I was lucky enough to get the charizard research task and was able to complete it, but if u do have friends to raid with and aren’t able to find the task u should just do mega raids because it’s more efficient anyway great video😌

You forgot to mention this is time based. Mega slowbro is currently impossible to obtain for anyone who didn't already have it

Besides the usual mega energy for the gen 1 starters, Mega Pidgeot, Mega Slowbro and Mega Beedrill energy (which mega Beedrill can also be obtained from spinning gyms) theres also one that rotates I think every month or every season, which can give you mega energy for that pokemon as well. One example was during the season that happened this winter I managed to stack up over 200 megan energy for Ampharos from just the tasks, since Mega Ampharos wasn't in raids back then.

It’s so much easier to just do a mega raid… if you’re a rural player, you have no excuses. With the weekly remote passes, raid hosting apps etc, it’s never been easier to raid for these mega Pokémon. You shouldn’t waste your time on those missions, I’d say go for missions that you’re interested in, perhaps there is a shiny chance etc.
