Sometimes babies get hiccups, and I know that it can be frightening. I often get calls from clients saying "oh no, the baby has hiccups what can I do?" Hiccups are very common. And just like hiccups do not hurt us, hiccups don't hurt babies. Sometimes you see a baby look a little distressed or may cry; that's just because they do not understand what is happening to them and that something out of their control is controlling them. The best thing to do is really nothing. You can distract your baby by talking to your baby, rocking your baby and singing to your baby, and do any other bonding exercise that would distract your baby. But in regards to giving them anything or feeding them anything, it's really recommended that when the baby gets the hiccups you just leave them be. There's no sense in scaring them; that's not going to help them; it will only make it worse. Some parents use gripe water, or even distilled cooled chamomile tea to relieve the hiccups. If your child gets hiccups often and you find these remedies helpful and they do not hurt your child then absolutely use them if they help your child feel better. You can find gripe water at any pharmacy, baby store, drugstore and usually all it is is chamomile, ginger, and fennel -- things used to calm babies or help settle their stomachs. So using these remedies, or distracting them, are the best things for hiccups.

Hiccups are usually a result of air getting trapped under the baby's diaphragm, causing it to have spasms- most often as a result of the baby getting air during a feed.
If you burp baby every few ounces/ when switching breasts when breastfeeding, you can prevent them and keep baby upright for 10-15 minutes after a feed. Once the baby does have them- keep baby upright and give gentle pats on the back or rub the base of the chest/ just at the top of baby's stomach- in a circular motion and that should settle them.

Ran out of gripe water. The string tickle on the forehead didn't work so I put cold water in a dropper and gave her a tiny bit and it worked great. The cold really helped. Tried it first with warm/lukewarm and it did nothing.

Breastfeeding is the cure. Godbless all the smart loving mothers. Curse those who are involved in abortion and all wickedness.

Gripe water can sometimes have alcohol in it- therefore NOT recommended.
The non-alcoholic ones really won't help more than placebo in studies - so no point in giving it; (the steps below will help better) if the non-alcoholic ones seem to work for your baby- there is however, less harm in it.

I'm 14 and my older sister is 18 we decided to give our mom a little break from our new born little sister, she was born on march 9 and since then my mom hasn't been getting some sleep. So we promised mom that we'll take care of her THEN she suddenly started getting hiccups, our mom instructed us things to do when she gets hiccups but those didn't work so I searched it up lol

My son amd his partner were told by their pedi today that giving a baby under 6months water was 100% not advised. Since when? I mean my youngest is 20 (the dad) but I remember giving water with hiccups or in between feedings. Is water really bad for babies?
