I love Cas saying "I have 3 containers and two lids" and proceeded to declutter 1 container and the 2 lids 🤣

I once opened a tub of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" only to find a bunch of old ketchup packets. I mean, the tub did warn me it wasn't butter.... I laughed for 10 mins straight!

I think the container thing was the response to suddenly being inundated with plastic containers of food and trying to reuse/recycle them in some way. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and remember even reusing bread bags and jelly jars! We still have the Loony Toons jelly glasses from my childhood! I think it's from a generation that had very little or had to make things last. My grandparents all lived through the great depression.

I keep containers not for my leftovers but for giving leftovers to my family. It a free container that I don’t need back. After get togethers we have extra food so I give them the extra/leftovers in those containers. I keep my containers at home & they can discard those after they are done. Win win! I also don’t keep them all the time just around holidays or anytime I know we are having people over.

I was born in 1953 and we saved EVERYTHING! Ha, ha! Rubber bands from the daily newspaper went in the drawer, newspapers were saved for the school paper drive, paper bags from the grocery store folded and kept in a spot, egg cartons used for crafts or donating to school for crafts, baggies that only had crumbs in them from sandwiches taken for school lunch (shake out and use again), brown lunch bags brought back home if not soiled and reuse, soda was in glass bottles as were most bottled items in grocery store. We did not drink soda but collected the bottles in the neighborhood to take to the minute market to trade in for money to buy penny candy (fireballs were 2 for a penny), you could get a bag full of candy for a quarter! And Icees were ten cents! And it goes on - back in the day appliances/TVs lasted and they could be repaired even the toaster (my dad was handy).

Now, we live in the plastic age and everything gets thrown away. I still save a few things, like leftover screws and things left over from putting things together- just hate to throw it away (just might need it one day -😂).

This mindset came from living through the depression. But I am still frugal and not wasteful.

As a side note, I clean out leftovers and expired items each week the night before the garbage truck is coming. That way I don’t have science projects and a packed fridge. Also, have a “Must go” dinner once in a while (where everything must go!).

Loving this series of 5 minute declutter!!❤❤

We keep all the margarine bowls, sour cream containers thru the year until the holidays...they are then taken to family events to be used for leftovers for everyone to use with the understanding to never bring them back...

Blue painter’s tape is a great way to label. It sticks well enough and doesn’t leave a residue when removed. 😊
Thank you Cass! I am loving this 30 day challenge. ❤

In Italian American households we have large yellow Polly-O ricotta containers in the freezer with marinara in them. Iykyk.

I love you view about the towels you said a few videos back. I can’t do just 1 towel per family member. Just shows how there really are different ways of doing the same thing

Just for grins, I’ve been keeping a running total. Day 17 and over 400 items have left the house. I’ve tried to stick to the rules but haven’t succeeded completely, I’ve run over on time on a couple of days where the area was so close to being done I couldn’t stop. On days 11-14 everything was stored in one cabinet, though not in individual spaces so I started at the top and did a couple shelves a day, finished on the correct day and the whole cabinet was done. On the plastics, rather than toss them in the trash, if they have a recycle number (type of plastic) that can be recycled locally, they are going into the recycle bin, not the trash.

I don't know about the rest of us, but now we know why Cass ends up with containers and no lids! Loving this series Cass. I wish it could continue beyond September.

I have already decluttered probably 80% of my belongings, but I am loving this series to sort of fine tune spots I may have missed. I've also passed it on to people I know who want to start decluttering. Thank you so much.

I can't get over how much fun I'm having with this!!! :) I've actually had 8 migraines in the past 10 days, but, this is SO completely doable for me that I've been able to keep up, and most days, far more than 5 items are leaving my home. It's SO nice to accomplish these small goals regardless of how I feel! I want to carry on after our 30 days are up. Thank you, Cas!!! :)

I remember…Way back in the day companies would place their items in useable glass containers [like a small drinking glass for mustard} it was the best way to keep the items after you use all the product. Now companies are helping the consumer to fill the landfill (plus their products come in advertising packaging) l wish there was a better way. Simple packaging (less colour) stand by your products, and pass the savings to the consumer. It’s time. Thank you ladies.

Day 17 - CK. Today at 9 a.m. I gave 6 boxes of declutter items (1 was storage containers) to Charity. I now have 5 empty boxes in my car ready for more decluttering. My husband was very pleased with how the storage container area looks, very proud of myself - THANKS Cas!!

My mom was a Depression era kid. We def re-used every margarine container! When I tasted real butter as an adult I was blown away! I haven’t bought margarine since 1990.
