As a young man I worked around mining, milling, sample prep and testing equipment. This equipment launched grease. Black t-shirts were my go to work t-shirts; they didn't suffer from visible grease stains.

My personal top 5 are
1) Crisp white dress shirt
2) Oxford button Down in white, powder blue and powder/baby pink
3) Cotton or Linen Mandarin collar shirt in white and in Navy blue
4) Formal or Oxford shirt with a white collar and white cuffs in powder blue and powder pink
5) Darker coloured shirts with smaller/sleek checks - blue with thin white checks, bottle green with navy blue, so on..
As long as they fit well, have a good length (tuck in or out) and are ironed, they should be good to go..
I get them dry cleaned once in a while, rather than washing them. They starch it up too, so it looks crisp every time.

Ash looks so passionate in this video! However, I personally find white and black are too stark. Off-white colors such as ivory and navy blue are more subtle and versatile.

Here is my fashion tip. Whenever you buy a new shirt, take an old one to the salvation army bin. That way you are always up to date.

All of my dress shirts are Oxford button down dress shirts. Ashley draws a distinction between Oxford and other types of dress shirts in her related video and says the button-down collar lends a too-casual vibe to a suit, but I have a different view. I think the other shirts maintain their collar-in-place character with a stiff "artificiality" vibe that detracts from one's sense of presence. The benefits of the luxurious fabric (after washing and wearing) and the uniform collar of an Oxford shirt dominate over other dress shirts. As for the other non-dress shirts, if I'm going to step down from a polo, I'm beyond caring whether it's black or some other color.

This is one of the very few genuine menswear/lifestyle related channel on Youtube. You just have to take advice from a woman when it comes to what looks good on a man!

So far you're mentioning every thing I've been thinking before you say it. So I guess I'm getting thing right. I'd add that any t-shirt looks better when its well cared for and not oversize or beat up. Most of the videos I've watched tend to stress having a good tailor -- and that could go well for tailoring t-shirts so they fits well. BTW ... I think one of the joys of finding clothing for dirt low prices is that even if they don 't fit precisely when I buy them, I can still afford to have them tailored.
