I like that Don Bluth respected us as kids and didn’t try to sugarcoat things.

I watched this movie so many times as a kid and this scene never scared me, but watching it years later I realised that All Dogs Go to Heaven is much darker than I remember.

This scene alone made me absolutely terrified to watch this movie as a kid. It always seemed to catch me off guard, and the way the hellhound snarls, **”You can never go back!”** to Charlie has continued to haunt me to this day.

I love how this whole sequence is such a dramatic shift in mood from the previous scenes of Anne-Marie singing about wanting a family.
From innocent and wholesome to dark and terrifying! Gotta love how Bluth’s earlier films experimented with such abrupt transitions.

This was so traumatizing for me as a child. I remember having nightmares about Charlie for weeks

This movie was crazy scary. Something about the hand-drawn animation makes things like the boiling clouds so much more frightening than anything computer-rendered or live-action could ever accomplish. The scene in particular where the red devil wind wraps around the house when Charlie has to say goodbye (and you hear the hell-hound growl are both absolute nightmares.

Don't wanna Imagine what kind of torturous punishments Carface had to endure from Hellhound when he got pulled to hell by Red in the sequel.

The skeleton boat being rotoscoped just adds to the sheer unsettling-ness of the whole scene.

Everytime when I hear "you can never come back" creeps me out, it's like hearing a spooky ass ringtone.

Even as 28 year old woman this is enough to scare me into being a good girl.

I remember this in my childhood and I was sorta scared and confused at the same time by that evilest demonic Hellhound. My mother once told me as a kid that’s where people go to heaven when they die but she never told me about Hell because I was very young. But now, I finally understand what happens if people did bad deeds by the time they die, they go to Hell and get tormented and punished for eternity, depending on if they have nasty sins.

Truth be told, there is no such thing as a Hell for animals, because animals don't sin, they just react on instinct. But since it is just a movie, I can handle at the fact maybe it was meant to be a symbolism about one's actions and where it can take us, depending on the choices we make in life.

1:32 "You can never come back!"
When I was a child, I thought it was a monster burping when he says "back". XD lol
