Tensions rise as Evelyn, hiding her true intentions, begins to manipulate those around her, particularly her future brother-in-law, Douglas (Ralph Bellamy). As Evelyn’s behavior creates conflict between the Proctor family members, secrets begin to unravel, and suspicions grow. I LOVE the orchestral soundtracks. There were a composer, a Maestro and so many musicians playing LIVE, no Auto-tune, no presets, no samplers.

Reminds me very much of 1950 All About Eve with Anne Baxter in a similar role. Both great films.

Any time I join "Live chat" it turns out that I post six consecutive lines, and no one else replies or comments, then I turn off Chat, and my remarks have disappeared? Then I turn Chat back on, and I see comments from others(?)...

Am I blacklisted?

This psychological thriller about a neurotic, manipulative woman who attempts to destroy a fragile family from within is somewhat reminiscent of the following year's superior Leave Her To Heaven, and it's directed by the underrated John Brahm, who made a couple of superb melodramas with Laird Cregar around the same time as this. But it just doesn't work: it's talky, ethically dated, the claustrophobic setting gets really tedious after awhile, the music is overwrought and the ending is ridiculous. But it did give Anne Baxter a chance to limber up for her more substantial roles in The Razor's Edge and All About Eve and, by making Ralph Bellamy of all people the movie's sexual center, freed him up from playing an endless number of nice but dim guys who don't get the girl in movies like The Awful Truth, His Girl Friday and MANY others. How Ralph must've LOVED this filmmaking experience! 5/10.
