Sewing the Autumn Trends 2020

This week I've picked out the key trends you can get sewing for Autumn and identified the sewing patterns and fabrics you can use to recreate the looks. As always the focus is on genuinely wearable pieces that will stand the test of time, no flash in the pan fashions here. All of the looks are things I would like to sew up and add to my handmade wardrobe and I hope you like them too. There's nothing like a change in the season to inspire us to sew something new now is there?

Overall I noticed lots of feminine details such as ruffles, statement sleeves and pretty collars paired with more structured masculine pieces, lots of loungewear, luxurious fabrics and midi length skirts and dresses still going strong.

Yes I love a pattern with a lot of different makes - it is so worth the money you spend on it

Thank you so much Lucy I really really love ❤️ this Vlog. I’m not keen on the puff sleeves, but, that vogue pattern at the end, was just up my street. And the wrap skirt, is really really stunning and gorgeous too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags

Is SSHA_0009 the Teal (Petrol) Okeo tex certified fabric you mentioned at the same time as the Hudson pants? I’m not sure I’ve ordered the right material as I couldn’t see that one in your list below the video? Both arrived today but the Hudson pattern says it recommends at least 25% stretch, your website says the pattern recommends at least 40% stretch and the fabric I’ve ordered has none? Yet it sits under the stretch Jersey section online? If there was another section I should have been looking in please can you give me the product code to go straight to the right fabric?

I love the fabric so I’m sure I’ll make something else with it but I wanted to let you know I’m a little confused in case anyone else is, and a little frustrated that I ordered ‘trouser length quantities of something I will now probably turn into a top of some kind. But just to say again it really is beautiful fabric. Best wishes, C

Great video, but I would love it if you included / highlighted patterns that do larger cup sizes. You inspire me but I know most of the patterns wouldn't fit me.

This was such a useful video and utilised today in the charity shops and bought some patterns and fabric to reflect the trends. Thanks, really firing my yen for sewing.

I love the look of a maxi skirt, but when you are short I don’t know?

Great pics! You just reminded me that I have the Orla pattern tucked away somewhere! I need to find that :) I have already joined the sweater/cardigan trend and it is fantastic for showing off dresses and blouses! Thanks for pointing out the good value in that McCalls pattern...I don't look enough at the Big 4, so I always appreciate how you draw my attention to them...especially bc they are quite accessible here in Canada!
Take care!

I like the colour of your cardigan, did you make it? Great ideas for new makes, makes me want to sew something - I quite like the blouse with baloon sleeves and your green fabric with white flowers was a good choice.
