Thanks for the reply.  I just finished an extensive rehab of my grinder including scraping of the ways and replacement of those very expensive bearings which I thought the old ones were what was giving me the problem.  Turns out after I purchased the new ones and THEN proceeded to tear it down I discovered the bearing retaining nuts were loose.  I think I could have just cleaned them up and tightened the nuts and been just where I a today but several hundred dollars richer.  Well, good luck.  I think we share a common problem.

I've been grinding for 20 years. I'm gonna help you out if you haven't already figured this out. Dress your weel .001 3 times back and forth. 4th pass take the diamond back across the wheel NO DOWNFEED this time. Your finish pass on grinding a part should be .0002 no more. Take a marker and draw on your part you will see when it cleans up.

It's just like milling marks. You will always have it unless you convert to belts and run finer grit. It's just like grind marks in blades, it has to happen to remove metal. The finer the wheel the less you will have, but you will always have it. Converting to belts helps a lot and I still need to do that to mine. Either way you will have to go to higher and higher grits.

You will always have a chatter pattern. It's part of it. You will have to either convert it to belts or run it across a disc sander to finish it off.

Thanks but have tried all of that. If I let it spark out I do get a better surface but the pattern is still there. Funny thing is
that I remember when I first got the machine I was getting the kind of surface I am looking for and I was even able to
ring parts together and they would stick. Of course my memory could be what's broken....
