It’s not our government. At least the federal government could disappear tomorrow and people who are responsible for themselves and their loved ones would be just fine. Unfortunately, the state and local governments are almost as bed, because just like the local bank and grocery stores, it’s all become homogenized

I heard a crazy rumor but I have no documentation. Some very large heavy equipment contractors were allegedly contracted weeks before the storm. A good reporter should be able to find this, if true. Usually personnel like to be friendly and talk about when they found out they would be coming up.... "We was supposed to be here last week but there was a storm, and now we are helpin with the storm too by clearing all these damaged houses"

the most important thing is to have a hub of support in your community, because when it happens to you, that's all you have. the community is where strength is.
but I will say that a nice, capable solar generator is a better pick than gas (or in addition) due to the sudden difficulty to get gas.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Industrial Base Policy, through its Manufacturing Capability Expansion and Investment Prioritization (MCEIP) office, entered an agreement with Albemarle Corporation to support the expansion of domestic mining and production of lithium.

The $90 million agreement, entered into under Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III authorities and utilizing funds appropriated by the Inflation Reduction Act, will help support Albemarle's planned re-opening of their Kings Mountain, N.C. lithium mine to increase domestic production of lithium for the nation's battery supply chain. Albemarle estimates that Kings Mountain will be operational between 2025 and 2030.
