Tesa's version of what happened:
"When we found out we were opening for Parmalee and Tyler Hubbard we were excited. When I was asked a few weeks ago if I wanted to sing with Tyler I was eager but thought “no way the band would arrange their set list to include a duet”. The morning of the show, I went for my pre gig run. I get home and George walks out of the house holding up his arm (goosebumps). He had just gotten off the phone with the event manager and they wanted me there for Tyler’s sound check so he could check me out. Rushed to get there and sound check came and went with no Tyler and no one asking me to sing. It’s ok, I am a local artist and he is an iconic country star. 2 hours later the event manager runs to me and says “you’re going to get a phone call from a guy named Aaron. Don’t miss that call!” He was referring to the amazing Aaron Farmer (composer, sound designer, producer, music director). Aaron calls me a few minutes later and says, “would you like to sing a duet with Tyler?” My response “yes please!!!” 😂 The plan was to rehearse it before his set (right after Parmalee). I’m shaking with excitement. This is going to happen. GOOROOS take the stage 5 minutes after that phone call. Best I’ve ever sang floating on cloud nine. Find out later Tyler had watched 2 songs of our set (and Living My Dash was one of them!! Holy shit he heard our original music!!) Massive shout out to my bandmates for killing it (George, Kevin, John, Andrew, Amy, Toby).
Parmalee put on a great show and we had the chance to meet and chat with them. Incredibly nice guys and talented to boot.
Ok, getting anxious. When is rehearsal?? 😂
Aaron sends me a text “you ready?”
Me: “yes, where are you?”
Him: “Backstage right”
Me: “me too” 😂 he was standing right behind me as we texted. Very very nice guy and put me at ease. “Let’s go!” He brought me to the bus where the band was chillin before their set. Shook hands with Tyler first and the rest of the guys introduced themselves. I stood, feeling a bit silly 🤪 in front of these incredible top tier musicians and artists and waited for someone to give me directions. I’m thinking “Are we gonna run through it?” Then Tyler says “I caught some of y’all’s set. Sounded good. You know the song Meant to Be?” Me: “absolutely”
Tyler: “ok! You got in ears?”
Me: “I do, but they are on our trailer heading to our next show” (yeah Toby!)
Tyler: “Aaron will get you set up with ears and a mic and we’ll see you out there”
No rehearsal? Dope. I was jacked out of my mind at doing this on the fly.
Aaron tells me what song to listen for during the set so I can get on side stage and get set up.
Tyler and his band begin their set about 30 minutes later. Amazing performance. Great new songs. From the heart. Loved it. And then - I hear the cue song. Time to do this! I hand my phone to George who smiles a giant smile and says “I love you baby - you got this” ♥️ Head backstage where their sound engineer gives me a mic and an in ear monitor. (Note: somewhere along the line, someone said to me “you’re sure you got this? Because we’ve had people think they know the words and then it was a mess”) - can’t remember who said this now but that thought tried to sneak its way into my head. I squelched those thoughts and watched as Tyler began singing a song I’ve heard a million times. No one told me when to go in or what to do. I got this. Second verse was about to start… deep breath… I’m Living My Dash 🫶
Performance went as well as I could have hoped for. He mispronounced my name but fixed it quickly (all good - my name isn’t exactly normal lol). He hugs me and I float off the stage.
After the show, I called him over before he hopped in his bus and thanked him for sharing the stage. He gave me a sweaty hug and I asked if he would be ok taking a pic with all of us, and he said yes.
If you’re still reading this post, know this: Tyler and his entire band and crew are the kindest and most pro guys imaginable. I loved his music before, but knowing what a nice guy he is makes me love it even more. And Parmalee was just as amazing.
God is so good and gracious. I am blessed and I know it!"
