Sad day on the farm, the little highland/hereford cross has died. I can't say that coyotes did it, but they definitely ate on the carcass and now i'm out for them!

The Heifer with the swollen shoulder is Irina. She got kicked and developed an abscess. It’s been drained once and treated, but it needs drained again

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your calf to the predators. Have you considered getting some guard donkeys? Adler Farms swears by them and also the farm where he just got his long horns from.

That cow that was walking towards you looked like the front left chest was swollen.

Looks like 12K has a mas growing in her chest. DO you have donkeys to protect the herd.

Rhett, so sorry for the loss of the calf. That is devastating. Hoping you can find out what it was and get your plan going to get rid of it so the remainder of calves will be unharmed. God Bless

Rhett - my heart goes out to you, losing your little cross bull calf, especially to a predator. It's quite a balancing act- having a job, a farm with cattle, and a new baby.
Maybe your highland cattle network could help with advice on how to keep the fold safe.
I could see that you looked stressed from the start of this video.
I was sad for you and the mama cow.
Life can be so fragile.
Sending you all a prayer for well-being.

Hey Rhett, I am so sorry for the loss of this calf that is so senseless. It is good you could at least find these coyotes to get them taken care of. It sounds like you are interested in the Herford cross being a heifer so I am wondering what is the interest? I know you heard the news about the passing of Fred at Adler farms. Did you know that he did sire a calf before he died that will be born in about the next month's time. They had a video just this Thursday about it. Good luck getting all them coyotes and keep all those calves safe.

We raise highland cattle as well as black Angus. One thing I noticed about the highland breed is the lack of the aggressive nature to keep predators away like our Angus do. A pack of coyotes, although they don't seem all the threatening, can and will do a great deal of killing to calves if they're not properly defended by angry momma cows, and from the looks of how close those yotes are to your heard, yours are not aggressive enough. Thermal optics and a silencer (not sure if Oklahoma rules allow)is a great way to take the upper hand in your situation on some predator control. You can also invest in a few different breeds of dogs that will protect your herd or a few donkeys will chase yotes away too. Sorry about the lose, that's a bummer, good luck with your problem.

I am so sorry about your loss, that is a horrible thing to find. What is wrong with the cows neck? It is so swollen.
