As an Oregonian, I say, we will see, I have little faith, but I will remain hopeful for the time being.

You understand what he means when he says he will reunited them with their families of where they came from? Most of these people aren’t from here. They never had a job here, they never rented or owned a home here. Other states were bussing their homeless here. He will send them back and let their “family” take responsibility for them.

I sure hope the Goverment VA will provide more treatments facilities and housing since the military is responsible for a good portion of mentally ill and houseless people. You can't force families to take in family members who may pose a threat

Hope this works for the best outcomes. Many do not want to be in shelters as it puts them more at risk to predators and human trafficking. Especially of course women with children. And then addressing the social/ mental issues. People are not disposable. Please make sure there are plenty mental/ addiction professionals. In general people need long term guidance and follow up.

Any effort is better than the apparent nothing that was happening previously. We hope people are treated decently and get the help they need.

I am 100% in favor of helping homelessness, but I am also 100% in favor of NOT making it Portland's problem.

These people are nuts… spending Taxpayer monies on NON -CITIZENS while ex military people go homeless because these assholes have no money for them. Makes me wonder what side they are on!

People will have campsites set up during the day, there are too many encampments to enforce this. Many of the homeless sleep during the day and are active at night. In addition, you have people that refuse shelter for a variety of reasons.

I'm so happy with the ranked choice voting. I was able to vote for my main pick (Østhus) without worrying about my vote not counting between Wilson and Gonzalez.

Finally I felt I could safely vote for my preferred long shot candidate without costing my voice. Electing Wilson is the best thing that happened this election season (low bar, I know). I have faith in his vision, and even if I would have liked to have seen Østhus I got to have a part in his election.

This is the most engaged I've been as a voter in my lifetime and it's largely due to the options provided by a ranked choice system. Our new city government structure is also a big win and I'm excited to see Wilson set a precedent for a 21st century Portland mayor.

I'll believe it when I see it, I was just in Portland before the holidays and there's tents EVERYWHERE. Why not use all the buildings businesses fled the state from for shelters? I doubt any change will happen at all

It's Because he owns a Shelter ! FOLLOW THE MONEY 💰 🧐 I'm sure he'll sighn the biggest contract with the city for his non-profit. All tax deductible. "Bandaid"

How does Oregon afford food, rehab, and housing for all the homeless? Where exactly do the funds come from? And if these funds are available why are you waiting? It’s cold and wet out now, and winter hasn’t even started…..

With the incoming sh*t-storm of the federal government, we really need to get people united and seeing each other as *people*
This is a great first step, but we *MUST* see it through, and not give up after the first few steps!

I just witnessed a burned up RV on SE Steele by Reed College. Just Sitting. Several tents and trash all over DT.

Please go out and drive around the city: at 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm. Drive on the east side of the river. People are parked in cars on almost every street, idling, to stay warm. When you see what is happening with your own eyes, you'll notice that people have pets, people are just like you and me, old people, moms with kids, dads driving non-stop delivery to pay for things, roads melting, no bathrooms anywhere. Please take parts of city hall out to SEE what is happening.

A-lot of talk and he sounds like a man of action not buzz words. But portland needs follow through and quickly.

Reunify people with their family/resources???? Right.
"Flex up the system" means, they don't know what to do.
This is word salad code "don't judge me for non performance."

Portland will never have the appropriate mental health services to actually meet this need, the money will always end up being stolen for someone or something else. Enforcing the no camping rule is extremely important to those of us who want to walk safely in our community and I really don't care where these people end up when they have safe shelter ($1, 000, 000 units in some of these places), offered with resources to get them back in society and off drugs, they receive food stamps, free cell phones but still choose to live on the streets, stealing, doing drugs publicly and creating litter and unsafe environments for tax paying members of society. Downtown was really cleaned up for the marathon and I hope it stays that way. I am honestly excited about this guy for mayor but Portland is full of corrupt officials whether they have a (D) or an (R) next to their name and like they always have, I expect this endeavor to fail. Homelessness is just way too profitable to these Portland politicians.
