In this episode of STARMUS Diaries, host Diana Makaryan sits down with Dr. Jane Goodall—Ethologist, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, and UN Messenger of Peace—to explore the intersection of science, art, and the human spirit.

Recorded during STARMUS VII: STARMUS Earth in Bratislava, this conversation highlights Dr. Goodall’s lifelong mission to inspire change and her belief in the power of collaboration to address global challenges like climate change.

Dr. Jane Goodall is one of the most influential conservationists of our time. Her groundbreaking work with wild chimpanzees in Tanzania’s Gombe National Park redefined our understanding of animal behavior and transformed the field of primatology. She has spent over six decades advocating for wildlife conservation, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment, including through her Roots & Shoots program. As a UN Messenger of Peace, she continues to travel the world, spreading a message of hope and action.

In this interview, Dr. Goodall reflects on her own journey—one that began with a childhood dream:

"When I was ten I decided 'when I grow up I'm going to move to Africa, live with wild animals and write books about them,' and everybody laughed at me."

She also shares why festivals like STARMUS are essential, bringing together science and art to create a deeper, more empathetic understanding of our world. She emphasizes that while science once dismissed emotions in research, today, we must unite heart and head to truly make a difference.

Above all, Dr. Goodall delivers a powerful message of hope, reminding us that it is up to humanity to work together to protect our planet.
