UK economy: what does technical recession mean for Sunak?

Rishi Sunak pledged to kickstart growth. Instead, the UK fell into recession late last year.

Output shrank for two consecutive quarters at the end of 2023 - with people spending less and doctor's strikes contributing to the contraction.

But economists expect the recession to be brief, and the Chancellor is downplaying the data, telling this programme the economy is turning a corner.

Falling inflation doesn't mean falling prices. It means rising prices at a slower rate from a now much higher level.

Jeremy Hunt strangling you with his bare hands, and telling you it's not him, it's you.

Meanwhile.. Per capita we've had 7 straight quarters of decline. It's why WE feel so skint.

The UK government is alone in the world for still blaming the pandemic for it's current poor economic performance.

Didn’t Sunak say his plan was working? Has he lied? Or was this his plan all along? 🤔

3:12 “Real wages have been going up now for 6 months”? What exactly does that mean? Excuse my ignorance, but, what?

We don't care what it means for Sunak, we care more about what it means for us.

James Murray came over as been utterly useless. He made Jeremy Hunt look like a genius and that is no mean feat. Especially with Hunt's feeble attempt to blame the Ukraine war. Murray seriously needs to work on his interview skills as his responses were terrible. The choice at the next general election is almost as bad as that the American electorate are facing with Biden vs. Trump.
