This is why forgetting / moving on from story beats never works - they referenced one incident and immediately have a title match that makes sense because of it. WWE did a fantastic job at quickly building Damien vs Gunther into a fight, now they've had a 8-10 minute segment where Gunther vs Orton ALREADY makes sense too. The booking has been impeccable for some feuds.

I love gunther he's a menace in the ring and his mic skills are massively improving week after week, every match he has its almost like he downloads each match into a hard drive and learns from them there's very few people who I see in wwe that go match to match and improve on every single one of them but he's definetly one
