ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Hans Aspergers was the creator of the condition of autism labelled later on in his career as Asperger’s syndrome, that categorises a set of autism spectrum symptoms.

Hans Aspergers along with Leo Kanner are the founders of the body of research that is name Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder and more recently Autism Spectrum Condition.

This research made both of these mens careers and they both became the leaders in the field of research for autism.

In recent months the history of Hans Asperger has been unveiled to show some shady controversial events and instructions on his study of Aspergers Children.

The Has Asperger Controversy and Has Asperger German WW2Germans WW2 links calls for some interesting debates into the naming of Aspergers Syndrome on Aspergers diagnosis and the future of the term.

Hey from the Aspie World and a big welcome into my life! I am a Dan from the UK and I have Aspergers Syndrome or ASD which is a form of Autism, often referred to as High Functioning Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder. I make videos every week on my journey and offer tips and tricks to help everyone who has Autism.

I also have help videos for helping people get a diagnosis of Autism or Aspergers Syndrome, and also some advise and help for anyone who is friends, partners or loved ones who suffer from Autism or Aspergers Syndrome and just about anyone on the Autism Spectrum.

Personally my diagnosis on paper is autism spectrum disorder but if my diagnosis letter said aspergers after watching this video I wouldn’t want to be associated with someone so horrible and vile just my opinion

I've never used the term "asperger's, " because for me it has the same elitist feel that "high functioning autistic" does. Like, "oh, I'm better than those other autistics, I've just got asperger's." However, I don't think at all badly of fellow asd humans who prefer the term. To each their own! :)

Naming something after someone is a huge honor and no one attached to nazis should be honored in anyway.

Since I was diagnosed this year, 3 weeks before I turned 36, I have the diagnosis of ASD. So all nurses and doctors say I'm autistic, since Aspergers doesn't exist on paper anymore. In regards to Aspergers, I use the term. I also use autism. I also use Autie. That one, not as often, very rarely. I'm autistic though and so are all 3 of my teens. If someone needs clarification, I'll further explain, "All 4 of us have Aspergers"

Well if this isn't the most orderly comments section I have ever seen on youtube. I quite fancy the term "Sperglord".

Even though I haven't had a medical diagnosis I know I have Asperger's. For me personally I'd much rather say I have Asperger than Autism. But I do (finally) understand why a lot of people are upset about changing the name.

I'm glad you're going back to other things that are named and the background. I don't really know how it could be changed sadly even if it did get changed like the original Autsim picture, some will think nothing of it. Others will take offense

I agree with Noah on this. My daughter has aspergers and we use the term to identify her specific traits as the spectrum is wide with various forms of autism. We also use the term ASD but more often aspergers. My daughter loves the fact that she is an aspie girl and I couldn't imagine telling her she can't call herself an aspie anymore. Lol she'd probably look at me like I was out of mind if I tried to tell her that. I believe the reason it's being made a big deal of is due to the politically correct society the world is in right now. Great things have evolved from bad people and that's just a fact of life. I'm glad you brought up operation paperclip because that was my first thought at the beginning of the video. Had it not been for that we may not have a space program today. Are we going to quit exploring space since nazi scientist helped us get there? That would make no sense. I get not wanting to associate with the nazis because that was a horrible time in history. However, Hans Asperger was the pioneer for distinguishing what aspergers syndrome is and the term has been used ever since. Here's some food for thought, all murder mystery movies, tv shows, and novels are inspired by horrific people. Yet, many people are still fascinated with them. Does that make people who are murder mystery enthusiasts murders? No. Simply put, using the term aspergers syndrome does not make the diagnosed person a nazi or a person who promotes nazism. I love your videos! Keep up the good work! You have helped me in so many ways to better understand my daughter and I can't thank you enough for that.

Aspergers was MERGED into Autism. It wasn't removed or dropped.

I wish there was another term to explain to people how I am different (to let them know to not expect me to perform like the rest of them, and everything else that makes me me, like not getting sarcasm or body language etc). I was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in late 1990's, which is now called Autism (Aspergers Syndrome always has been autism. Aspergers Syndrome 'was' a specific title for my place in the "spectrum", and it got merged into the broader term of Autism.

In the last year, I hesitate to tell people I have Autism, because of how people abuse it as a joke. At least once, I told people in an internet commnity that I have Autism, and they wouldn't take me seriously -_-

I wish there was a simple term I could say to people, that doesn't bring about the wrong impression from the people I tell it to. Autism and Aspergers are not good terms anymore. Now met with the wrong reaction most of the time... Now what do I say?

It sounds to mea but like Aspergers valued the children that "benefitted" others (either himself, nazis, larger society) as better. That kind of eugenics really turns my stomach, no human life should be deemed less valuable.

I don't think anyone using the term Aspergers should be shamed, but I think its fair to consider starting to phase out that word from the general language. I have recently been diagnosed with autism (the Aspergers variety) and I honestly feel a lot of discomfort with that label. Every time I think/hear the word Asperger, I have this gut reaction of disgust and "child killing nazi". I understand why some people prefer to continue to use that term, but its not something I personally feel comfortable with

I had a working diagnosis of Aspergers until I learnt about attachment and object reactions whilst studying to be a Psychotherapist.
Reflecting on my own experiences enabled me to realise that I am not disordered, but I was responding to a disordered environment, and pathologising this with a label made me feel like I was the wrong one.
