@theScytheofGod He was and is a studio guy in LA, has been playing with Supertramp since the mid eighties and has his own thing called the Carl Verheyen Band.

@Uberloinvongenchler I agree with every word. I feel I am somewhat limitated by my guitar and I am wishing to learn the piano to open up my sonic possibilities and also to just stop thinking as a guitarist, which is what I do even if I try so hard not to. Great words, my friend.

Well what can you do really my friend....there are two kinds of guitarists, those who see players like Verheyen as an opportunity to learn something more or at least get inspired and those who find it easier to diss the guy in order to feel good about themselves(cause they dont have the drive or patience to do anything more).Thats why the first ones learn and progress and have fun in the process and the second ones just

Where is Carl from, what band? Is it Supertramp?

So much true. You can end up with your hand having the first role and this is not good. It is a matter of logic after all, if your hands are used to something you will play that something all the time and won't let your mind do its creative stuff

I love when guitarists who don't ONE song that even hits the bottom of the charts chime in about how a famous guitarist isn't 'good'. I bet there isn't even one guitarist watching this that is close to Carl in actual skill and song writing capability.

What are you taking about: "randomly playing in pentatonic ...scale."? Noodling is not random! I tend to play in arrears, thinking, "wow, that sounded good, what did I just do?" Of course, I just hope it happens again when someone else is listening. Looks like a pretty decent vid. Besides that, Id like to know how to get that smooth tone form single coils.

Probably not as much as you think. Carl has been in the business for decades. He's been a studio musician for longer than Eric has been a household name.

I think Carl says it takes more WORK to get a good saturated tone out of single coils...whether that be bone tone, dialing it in, or whatever I'd sure like to know his

@JusticieroDeLaMuerte I agree. I mean he is incredible but TOP TEN....thats a stretch

Dude. I studied with Carl this summer and he is anything but sloppy when he plays fast. And he has interesting fast lines unlike other a lot of other players.

I don't know why I even bother reading people's comments??! If anyone who has commented negatively on this video can say they have a more impressive resume than Carl they are full of poop. Watch the vid, try to learn something, and spread some positivity. Bunch disgruntled failed musicians all over youtube trolling around commenting on videos about how this guy or that guy sucks when most of the people commenting haven't played a real gig in their lives. Hilarity.

@indagdnm I'd like to say that they aren't, but they are. Plz don't reply.

Line development? You should learn to develop lines by learning the fingerboard and learning to improvise with that knowledge. Charlie Parker, brah.
Scott Henderson would eat Carl's fetus with his improv skills.
