Nvidia tries to sell DLSS3, not the card itself. This performance difference is a joke. Raw power of 4070 at this price and the fact that it is tagged as a 70 series card is unjustifiable

Performance increase of the 4070 vs 3070

Was a little worried I missed an opportunity when I bought my 3070 back in november, but when I see the gap is actually 10 to 20 fps, i'm kinda relieved. Beside turning dlss on most those game will make the difference even less noticable.

nice power efficiency improvement. But as what Ampere launch has proven, that metric doesn't matter. People want performance per dollar improvement. Same reason 4090 sold like hotcakes on launch, rich people who can afford $1500+ cards saw performance per dollar improvement.

Built my newest PC in January 2021 ( 3070 OC edition, 10700k, and 16gb of vengeance @3600mhz). Here I was thinking it was time for me to upgrade, sell my pc, and build a whole new one from scratch... I think now I'm going to keep my PC until the 5XXX series GPUs and 14th-15th gen processors. The 3070 was such a HUGE jump in performance from the 2070 Super I had in my last PC that I thought the 4070 would be the same. Apparently not.

Edit: if you're in the market for a 3070 while they're cheaper now just know that when games like MW2 first came out you could get 144fps @ 1440p all ultra settings with DLSS 2.0 on Quality... but since they've done so many updates and graphics improvements to take advantage of the 4XXX GPUs power I now only get 100fps on the same settings and 80-95 on warzone. I wanted to reference MW2 just because it's a really popular game.

You should do your benchmarks with and without Raytracing. It costs a lot of performance and barely makes a difference most of the time.

The raw performance of the 4070 is pathetic. If you compare the specs of it to the 3070, you will see that it is a minor hardware upgrade over the 3070. The 4070 is mostly a software upgrade because the only thing that makes it significantly faster than the 3070 is DLSS 3. It's pathetic that they relied on upscaling and Frame Gen. The only significant hardware upgrade the 4070 has had is VRAM. It's also based on a new architecture with more enhanced RT Cores and higher core clocks, which count as hardware upgrades. But that's to be expected for a next gen GPU. The hardware of the 4070 is a joke, which is why it is only slightly faster than the 3070 in terms of raw performance. Nvidia is using software technologies such as DLSS and Frame Gen as the main selling point of their GPUs, which is a big problem. This GPU is definitely not worth it at $600. I can't imagine how bad the 4060 and 4060 Ti will be.

In Spider-Man test all of you can see the difference how game optimization, videocards and their drivers work - @6:00-6:15 smoke effect disappears differently. On 3070 it's smooth, on 4070 it's almost instant

so we're really still paying a lot (and actually a lot more) just to push 60hz on 1440p which should've been the standard resolution for "midrange" budget for about 5 years now?
