I tried off-grid cabin life in Scotland. Located on the banks of Loch Fyne, Scotland's longest sea loch sits a beautiful cabin off-the-grid.

I spend a few days embracing the slow pace of tiny house cabin life, soaking in the breathtaking lochside views and savouring the fresh, local seafood.

WHO AM I?
If we haven't met before... Hi, I'm Ruth 👋 and I recently bought a campervan to travel my home country of Scotland after living overseas for 12 years. I’ve hardly seen anything or been anywhere in Scotland and now is the time to change that!

'Off-grid' definitely does not mean primitve! Someone has put a lot of care and thought (and likely money) into creating a beautiful and tastefully done retreat. The views are stunning, and the sunsets! It appears you enjoyed your stay and celebrated with a feast. Thanks for taking us along.

Ruth, consider yourself fortunate to be living in a country where you can live safely off the grid, as a female, and alone. Try doing that here in Chicago where I live? Love your programs. GOD bless, stay safe, and keep it coming, okay?

Thank you for your insight and spirit. When I was a younger man, I lived in Thurso for 3 years. Scotland and her charm have always had a place in my heart. Your videos are very relaxing and I always feel at peace after watching them. Carry on!

To the 'Lady in the van.'

I am a fellow Scot, who currently lives in Yorkshire. I grew up on the Clyde and once owned and lived in a cottage on Easdale Island in Argyll. As such am well acquainted with Argyll, the Clyde coast, their sea lochs and islands. As a sports diver, sailor, then inshore commercial diver and former dive charter boat skipper I have experienced many of the places that you have presented on your videos.

It has been some 25 years since I lived in Scotland, though have been back several times since. I have only recently come across your videos whilst researching for a road trip ideas (though not self contained) for my elderly friend and neighbour. He is in his mid 80's and wants to do a road trip tour of Scotland whilst he still has the health to do so.

You have brought a whole new meaning to the title 'Lady in the van'. Far removed from that of Alan Bennett's, you present the wanderlust concept and experience of van life with elegance and grace.

I found your videos to be well presented, informational and educational and most importantly enjoyable. You have not only captured the essence of the places you visit but you embody the experience of freedom of the self contained road trip by which you accomplish them. Your videos fire the imagination and inspire the spirit of adventure.

Another aspect of your video's that I like, is the fact that you share the technologies and equipment that not only bring added comfort to your adventures on the road but on how you film your travels and capture the footage that brings your adventures to life in our homes.

As someone who has done a full van conversion but for a very different purpose and methodology. I am able to appreciate the amount of research, trials, tribulations time and effort that one goes through to perform and achieve such conversations. As well as the work involved in the planning of the road trip, creating the story board and subsequent editing for your videos.

Keep up the good work, your videos are an inspiration and remind us all that life is for living.
Happy days, Paul O. YouTube: Alcedonia Maris.

gosh, I had a wee cry while watching this video. Felt "homesick" tug to you country, even though I'm fresh off my first trip there last month. You capture the courie essence of Scotland so well. Wonderful job as ever Ruth. Adding this off grid cabin to my list for upcoming solo travels.

And interesting observation about off-grid, I'd noticed while scouring acc for my recent travelling that there are a lot of off grid accommodation in Scotland. I thought it meant off-grid in that sense that there would be no mobile service, no humming electrical appliances and etc. But you've opened my mind to the term of it meaning that it is not connected to the "grid" of electricity, plumbing and such. Thank you.

AND also another "light bulb" moment for me when you made the clarachan..I couldn't find anywhere on menues last month. Wanted to try it! But of course I could make it, thanks for inspiration! brava. and on the smoked salmon pasta, yum.

again, really great videos.
PS. I tried excellent Scottish seaweed snack while there (am craving it so bad right now) called SHØRE. Have you tried?? Highly recommend, very interesting things you said about challenges in system for producers using seaweed to make some goods..

Cheers from Iceland! María

Those kabns are absolutely stunning, the designer clearly has a taste for class and style. Thanks for the recipe, can't wait to try it with the salmon in my freezer.

Ruth, I was really impressed with your choice of that off-the-grid cabin. Total opposite of what I expected. Puts Glamping to shame! Then you had me when you pulled out the carrier bag bursting with Scottish treats. I initially thought the video might be a bit long, but it was so captivating, I had to watch a second time! Cheers from Alabama
