Introducing yourself on YouTube is actually more important than most people understand. It's not what you say much more. It's when you say it and how. In this video, I share how to introduce yourself on your first video and more.

In 2019, you helped me grow my 2nd channel to 1.5 million views (but it was for kids) So now I’m starting over. Your recent dedication is inspiring! Thank you for continuing to help us creators Brian! You’re awesome 🎉😃

Great advice. Years ago I had a standard green screen intro for all my videos, was about 5 seconds. Looked at Analytics and people scroll straight passed it! So I cut my standard intro down to under 2 seconds then get straight into the topic. Cheers Brian

I never introduce myself orally. Instead I insert a discreet title on the screen with my name, date and location, all smoothly blending in with what's happening on screen.

There are a lot of people I follow regularly and when they do the whole "Hi, I'm x and I do y" it feels like they are only addressing the new subscribers and I've been here for years lol. Though some like Cecilia Blomdahl say "if you're new to the channel, welcome, but if you're not, welcome back".

It's all a balance because if you reference something from a while ago a new viewer might not know so then it may be wise to say " as you may know if you've watched this video" and insert the thumbnail, then say "if not I'll link it at the end" and use that end screen! But don't forget to link a video you said you would! Nothing is more frustrating lol😂

I often put snippets of upcoming videos at the end so it piques the viewer's interest. My intros are the part that I work on the most (with music & all). I'm quite proud of them, I even made a compilation video "Best of Intros 2022" lol🎉

thanks I just found your channel. I am a content creator myself and I been struggling for a long time, the one tip in this video that I learned is don't say good bye. THANKS! I will consider and just tell the view to click on my flash cards. thanks again

I’ve stopped introducing myself in the beginning. I love your advice about how to end the video.

So inspirational for high light quality and astronomical change in every new video like encyclopedia of lighting and composition behind.. Do not give up! Algorithm is strange nowadays.

I dig! This was really great! My retention graph shows a cliff nosedive, not even a hockey stick! I‘ll work on it!

Thank you Brian, another great video! I changed my channel name. I had a successful week with trains only. I narrated the last few with inspiration from you. No background music, no graphic titles, no sound effects! Boom, ya dig! You were so right, I CAN do this. 😎👍 thanks

I usually add an end screen video. However, now I’m going to mention the related video as well. Thanks Brian

Decided jump back on YouTube after 8 months and I'm so close so a 1000 subscriber. This video made so much sense and I've learned something new. So definitely subscribing

Great info and reminder of how to make our content more engaging with the audience. A good outline - not a script - will allow content creators like me to stay on point while not droning on and sounding like a robot reading a script - something I am working on every day.

Brian, it was great meeting you at VidSummit in September with Nick in the Westin lobby. I'm Not a fan of asking people to like and subscribe until I've given them a reason to like and subscribe. People should not initially waste those precious 3 to 5 seconds of a viewer's time. I try to be into the video content within 15 seconds. Once you have given them a value proposition and satisfied their reason for watching your video, then you say here's why you want to subscribe. Most often I don't ask at all, it's background noise because everyone asks for likes and subscribes, but at the end of my videos I often point to 2 other well-performing videos of mine related to the topic of my video. Ya Dig?
