My kids LOVED the dinosaur unit study and I am surprised how much they have retained from it! I used the Build Your Library Prehistory Unity Study as our base program and added a bunch of books and activities.

It’s so refreshing to find someone else on here who falls into the old earth camp. I’m finishing Seven days now

I'm doing BYL for history and literature next year and am doing the unit this summer. Thanks for the resources! Now off to watch your BYL level 1 video. 😊

I have been waiting for a homeschool mama to do a video on this for so long! Thank you! My husband and I are in the same school of thought (we have science degrees but also have a very strong faith) and were very hesitant on how to approach this topic with our kiddos. You have some great resource recommendations and I feel you presented everything very tactfully. I have actually been looking for a timeline that could fold into a book since we don’t really have the wall space for it to stay up all the time. Please keep up the great work with your videos and thank you for covering a topic that many homeschool moms would be too worried to discuss. Our family definitely appreciates it!

This is so great Angie! I think we will add this unit in after we finish BYL 0. We will be finished by end of April so that will fit in nice to fill out the end of the year. Plus, my daughter loves dinosaurs so much. Your extra resources look amazing!

I have 5 kids but down to one left homeschooling - we have been doing year long adventures into a chosen theme for the year. For yr one last year we done a year of dinosaurs - we had a week out exploring all the dinosaur places in Winton, Hughenden and Richmond in Central Queensland Australia, now he can't wait till he turns 12 (3.5 years) so that we can go back for a few weeks and participate in one of their big excavation dig projects.
We are just finishing up a year of nature science, and about to commence a year of Viking/Norse studies.
I got the Usbourne encyclopedia of world history book you have there just for the little bit it has on vikings - thinking it might come in handy to just have hanging around. But I've since found that Pandia Press do two full year History curriculums using that book as it's spine (1 yr for the first half, and 1 for the second) so we are about to dig up a time line trench in the backyard and bury a heap of artifacts to dig up when we start going through that the next year.

We are going to do the BYL Prehistory unit this summer before starting Early Times in the fall. I'm pretty excited to see a review on it. I'm actually curious as to how many of your viewers are secular vs religious homeschoolers - you should do a poll!

Thank you, I have been waiting for this video! I am planning a prehistory unit for the summer for my boys who will be 6 and 4 and who love dinosaurs too! I cant wait to check out some of these resources to add to our BYOL curriculum.

My boys are waiting for me to start a dinosaur unit :), we have been loving Space so much, that’s it’s become a two month study instead of one 🙂 This video is super helpful, and I’ll use a lot of the books you have mentioned, thank you x

My son has yet to get into dinosaurs 🦕 and I’m seriously sad about it. You have done such a great job of picking up really fun resources and completing this unit.

I actually just did a unit study on dinosaurs as well and did so because of their request.. I was very interested to hear how you wove in the faith portion and teaching them this unit but I didn't hear very much on that in this video....
I love how you added the early man portion in...we went to the Jurassic drive-thru and that was a lot of fun as well as we took measurements from the books we found and measured out string and then lay them across our lawn to see and compare the different sizes of the dinosaurs which I think was really shocking to actually see their sides in comparison.

Thanks for sharing all the great resources! We have not done a unit study. This is encouraging.

This is so helpful! We have similar views as well (strong faith but interested in a science background) and I definitely need to sort my own thoughts and beliefs out before teaching our kids. I’ll have to go back and watch your video on mama book recommendations!

I just purchased the BYL Prehistory unit this morning (as well as the Darwin and Evolution one) and I was so happy to see that one of my favorite YouTube mamas had a review of it! I plan to do these two units along with studying space before we start Torchlight Level 1 and History Quest Early Times. My question to you as a big reader and lover of historical fiction, do you have any recommended books for adults that would go well with prehistory, evolution, and/or ancient history? I read Clan of the Cave Bear when I was young and loved it, but I’m wondering what else is out there. Thank you!

Wow! Thank you for the intro resources (the fossils kit, etc.). I plan on doing PreHistory after 0 and before 1 for the coming autumn school year transition. You've given me a lot of resources to gather 🤣.

Have you done a video on Artistic Pursuits? I'd love to hear more on how y'all use it.

Thank you!

Thank you for doing this overview. So appreciate it. I was wondering if anyone can comment to appropriateness of this unit study for very sensitive kiddos. Science Mama, you mention it for the video you picked up, but what about the other resources? I have a very sensitive 1st grader (can't watch Disney...too intense) but she really wants to study dinos. We've gotten a few books from the library last year that were on the edge, but just wondering about the BYL resources in particular.

Also, approximately how much time did you spend daily? And were you doing a separate reading/math curriculum? We are wrapping up Torchlight LevelK by the end of the year and I am thinking this unit study will fit in perfectly between new year and winter break timing.

Hi! Thank you for all the great resources. My son is 6 and in love with dinosaurs as well. 🙂
How do you incorporate the unit study into your day? Is it extra? Does it take the place of other subjects (like science and social studies/history)? Or does it become your curriculum for those 6 weeks and you incorporate the subjects that are missing?

Anthropologist here - please do your research on evolution - it is so important for your kids to learn facts instead of thinking they can jusy form an opinion on that. Much like how it would be ridiculous for someone to form an opinion on whether or not gravity is exists.
Thanks.

I honestly rewatched this video like 5+ times to figure out how I want to do this! Love the video! I am thinking of meshing Genesis creation section with prehistoric study - lots of fun! I agree that I do believe God created but I don’t think any of us will know exactly how He created!
