Where is the ritual?
And tell me where, where is the taste?
Where is the sacrifice?
And tell me where, where is the faith?

Someday there'll be a cure for pain
That's the day I throw my drugs away
When they find a cure for pain

Where is the cave where the wise woman went?
And tell me where, where's all that money that I spent?

I propose a toast
To my self control
You see it crawlin helpless on the floor

Someday there'll be a cure for pain
That's the day I throw my drugs away
When they find a cure for pain
Find a cure for
Find a cure for pain

One of the many songs that changed my life. There's no cure for pain. None. Can't drink it away, can't drug it away. Maybe you can fill the holes with love, but it's no cure. And just as well there may no need to cure something so beautiful, so pure, as pain. For me the transition was that pain was a beautiful poetic result of loving and I can just keep on loving. Love on. Love on. Love on.

6 years sober from coke, psychedelics and pain pills and this song hits a thousand times over being high to it. And that says something RIP sandman Long live

Twenty years ago i was attending at the gig in Palestrina (Rome). Horrible heat, lot of stoned people, and we were pretty drunk anyway. Mark said: "And now, a Super Sexy song", then he collapsed. I remember one guy in the crowd shouting with strong Roman accent: " 'A bello de' casa!" (hey, nice guy!), laughing and thinking he was faking. That was an absurd day. It was twenty years ago.

Mr. Sandman was beyond his years. He would have still been putting out phenomenal music if he was still around. Morphine is a great band to listen to down the county roads and mountains of New Mexico. Peace and Love Everyone.

We still haven't found a cure for pain yet, Mark.

My very first apartment living on my own (actually with a roommate) was in 1999 in the Allston neighborhood of Boston. The previous occupant left nothing in the place, except for an unopened copy of "Cure for Pain" on CD. We had nothing like 19 year olds do living in their first apartment. Crates and take-out pizzas... But we had this album on repeat and it holds up after every listen 25 years later. Thanks previous occupant for the CD, best gift from a stranger.

This was nice break from grunge back then, it was a shame he passed away so young and right when he seemed to be on the verge of some kind of popular success.

I met Mark in early 1982.
He was visiting California from Boston. He had a band called "Treat Her Right" I told him it was a lousy name for a band because it was awkward and hard to remember and not all women deserve to be treated right. I suggested he come up with a name that was one or two words or one or two syllables that people couldn't forget once they heard it. Like a dog's name. It wasn't until 2005 that a friend of mine started playing recordings of this esoteric band that was just bass sax and drums. I asked him what the name of the band was and he said Morphine. We kept listening to it and then he told me the story of the band. I always wondered what happened to Mark. I guess his dream came true. It would have been nice if he dreamed a little longer. Godspeed man.

Pain is inevitable, but suffering is the inability to accept that pain is inevitable. Don't let yourself suffer.
