I think the reason why Chester is absent on so many of these demos was because, as revealed in the Meterora Documentary, Chester was sick for most of Meterora.

The little pre-chorus segment is freaking sick.

I wouldn't say it's better than the final product, but I definitely think it's a shame that I don't recall them ever coming back to that idea again.
