Nick Lowe - Lately I've Let Things Slide (Live at Home)

With a growing sense of dread
And a hammer in my head
Fully clothed upon the bed
I wake up to the world that lately I've been living in
There's a cut upon my brow
Must have banged myself somehow
But I can't remember now
And the front door's open wide
Lately I've let things slide

I go to the bin, I throw the laundry in
And pick out the cleanest shirt
Then I tell myself again I don't really hurt

Smoking I once quit
Now I got one lit, I just fell back into it
Along with my pride
Lately I've let things slide

I go to the bin, I throw the laundry in
Dig out the cleanest shirt
When all at once I'm seized again by exquisite hurt

That untouched takeaway
I brought home the other day
Has quite a lot to say
The evidence is clear on every side, piled high and wide
About how lately I've let things slide
I'm just about holding on
But lately I've let things slide

What a powerful song and performance. Nick Lowe is IMHO one of the greatest songwriters of his, or any other generation.

Smoking I once quit, now I've got one lit.. I just fell back into it. Nick has a way.

This is the song I'd play to cry to when my poor brother finally died. Love you Nick Lowe, and thank you.

Just fantastic. For anyone here who can both play guitar and sing, have a go at this; it s harder than it appears. As usual, Nick’s timing is exquisite. Genius.

Nick is all about the the human condition!
He's a master.
I describe it as soft summer rain in the 70's, just before the sun comes out.
Exquisite!

Don’t ask me how Nick even reached this point to be able to write this? Chain smoker of senior service for years, serious drinker and going off the born fighter film, liked the pharmaceuticals as well😂 Just brilliant

I love this song and I have loved Nick Lowe since long before I realised they were his songs, his backing vocals, his perfect musicianship and production underpinning Brinsley Schwarz, Rockpile, Elvis Costello and The Pretenders. This song describes my worst years and Peace Love & Understanding my life in general.

Nicks later work must be the most under appreciated out there - album after album of amazing tunes and lyrics. Perhaps difficult to classify? Whatever just brilliant…

Whoever put this up, thank you. I was gutted when they took the acoustic ‘Later Jools Holland’ version down.

The U.K.’s ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’.

I am at an all time low in my life, but this achingly beautiful song is one of the few things that gets me out of bed. When I slide some more, Basher makes the situation, compassionate.

wow. just lovely. I'm also a huge Elvis fan, and I wish he'd lived to cover some of Nick's songs, as I suspect they would have suited him so well.

Brilliant version of a great song. It just shows how amazing some clever lyrics meaningfully sung and lovely chords can sound! Ty Nick. Keep well!
